The roundup for May 9th minor league games: Vazquez Rocks the Buffalo Herd in 6-2 Yankee Win; the Binghamton Mets drops series-opener to New Britain Rock Cats; the St. Lucie Mets walks off in 10, win 3-2; and the Savannah Sand Gnats walk past Hickory Crawdads 6-1.

Buffalo Bisons
For the second time this season, the Bisons saw how Jorge Vazquez can control a game with not one, but two swings of the bat.  The Yankees first baseman hit a pair of home runs -his second multi-homer game against the Herd in 2011- in a 6-2 victory over Buffalo on Monday night from Coca-Cola Field. Both blasts were solo shots off Bisons newcomer Brian Sweeney in his first start with the club.

Buffalo scored solo runs in the third and seventh inning and brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth. With the bases loaded, Mike Nickeas hit into a 1-2-3 game-ending doubleplay.

Binghamton Mets
The B-Mets allowed five runs in one inning for the seventh time in two weeks and lost to the New Britain Rock Cats by an 8-5 score tonight at NYSEG Stadium.

The game was knotted at two as Robert Carson toed the rubber to start the fifth inning. Things immediately took a turn for the worse as the B-Mets starter walked the first two batters he faced, the eighth and ninth hitters in the New Britain order.

St. Lucie Mets
The St. Lucie Mets returned home to Digital Domain Park and edged out the Palm Beach Cardinals 3-2 in ten innings to improve to 21-10 on Monday night.

The game was a classic pitcher’s duel. Palm Beach starter and top prospect Shelby Miller went up against Darin Gorski for the Mets. New York Mets reliever Bobby Parnell got the start for the Mets in a rehab assignment and worked a scoreless first inning before giving way to Gorski. Gorski matched Miller frame for frame through the next five innings.

Darin Gorski was solid tossing five innings allowing two runs, both unearned while striking out eight batters. Ronny Morla pitched the seventh and eighth innings allowing only two hits while striking out three and John Church got the win improving to 3-0 with two scoreless frames and two strikeouts.

Rafael Fernandez led the Mets with three hits and two runs scored on the night. Cesar Puello drove in a pair and Francisco Pena had an RBI and run scored on his solo home run to lead the Mets to the 3-2 victory.

Savannah Sand Gnats
Starter Gonzlez Germen twirled a gem to help the Savannah Sand Gnats walk past the Hickory Crawdads 6-1 Monday night at Historic Grayson Stadium. Germen threw seven shutout innings tying a season-high for a Gnats’ pitcher to earn his second win of 2011.

The Gnats (13-17) used seven walks total walks to score three times in both the second and third innings. In the second, Hickory starter Carlos Melo walked four batters to help the Gnats score three runs on just one hit. Savannah DH Blake Forsythe contributed the inning’s only hit, grounding an RBI single through the left side to bring home the game’s first run.
