The Mets trimmed their spring roster today by releasing veteran 2B Luis Castillo, and cutting 8 others from Major League camp, including Dillon Gee, Taylor Tankersley, and Ryota Igarashi. IN addition, the Mets reassigned minor league catchers Dusty Ryan and Raul Chavez, OFer Jason Pridie, IF Russ Adams and pitcher Boof Bonzer.   LINK

Luis Castillo

The Mets acquired Castillo from the Minnesota Twins on July 30, 2007 in exchange for Drew Butera and Dustin Martin. Castillo had played with the Florida Marlins from 1996-2005 before being dealt to the Twins. Castillo was re-signed to a four-year contract on November 19, 2007. He is a native of San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic.
