Catchers can take a long time. It’s not unheard of for a former top prospect to figure it out. I don’t see any better options on the roster for the backup role. It may end up a sunk cost and maybe Plawecki was the guy to keep but I don’t know. Catchers don’t have to hit much to have value. d’Arnaud may be kind of good as a backup.

Yes, but the way he plays D his value is in his bat so if he doesn’t OPS at a good rate he’s not very useful

Admittedly, TDA is not a gold glove catcher, but he's not gosh awful back there either.

But you wonder at his ability to throw.

At this point I'm not sure the question is will d'Arnaud play well or play poorly. The question is simply will he play.

I don't think you can carry only 2 catchers if d'Arnaud is 1 of them.

Thus Mesoraco who will be a fine backup.

And we need SD to come through with something similar for Harper.

Pirates sign Ex-Met Garth Brooks.

That would be great story if he made it to the Show.

Hal actually said $220

Hal did not say that. He said their PAYROLL is 220, and for some reason because they number matched with Duquette's rumor people combined the 2. Duquette said he heard the Yankees offered 220 million and then said he heard a rumor of that, not that he heard it directly.

Hal-“If there’s a narrative that we’re not spending money and being cheap, it’s just false. I mean, we’re well above $200 million [in payroll] -- we’re at $220 [million] right now -- and we’re well above where we were last year.”

To clarify a report out there attributed to me, I was only speculating about a recent rumor that I had heard, not “reporting it as fact” .
