# Virtually every NL contender, including the Reds and Giants, tried to acquire Mark DeRosa from the Indians. The Indians saved slightly less than $3 million on the deal, no small benefit to their ownership. They also acquired right-hander Chris Perez and a significant player to be named for three months of DeRosa. The last time they acquired a PTBN from the Cardinals, it turned out to be Coco Crisp.- Rosenthal

Man, the Cardinals really paid the piper for DeRosa

Perez almost killed two guys last night. Quite the pickup.

Huge command issues there. Especially against LHB.

I'm 100% with Metro here. Love this deal for Cleveland.

I really like Chris Perez. His 24 innings this year haven't changed my mind on him and neither did his Rick Vaughn impersonation. The strikeouts are fantastic. The control will come.

Getting Alex Rios would be very nice .. Run a 2010 OF of Fernando Martinez - Carlos Beltran - Alex Rios ..

That would do VERY WELL at Citi Field .

Beltran's knee problems may not disappear, and he's not going to be a centerfielder after 2011 even if he's still a Met. Rios put up 2 great seasons in 06 and 07, and an .800 OPS season last year. Stole 30 bases last year, on pace to do the same. Tools like crazy, even if he's never completely put them together. Plus defender, even in center. Beltran's career might be helped a lot if he played a corner. 12 million a year in 12, 13, and 14 is going to be cheap for an above average center fielder even if he doesn't put up the .850+ OPSes he did in 06 and 07. And the second half of last year, he went .880.

He's 29, even if he doesn't play up to the level that's hoped, an athletic centerfielder in his prime years will never be untradeable. For cheap, it's a great idea for the Mets.

Lastings Milledge close to being traded to the Pirates

Milledge for Snell makes sense for both teams. Change of scenery for both(and the Buccos get rid of Snell's contract).

The Bucs already have Milledge's younger and slightly better twin, Andrew McCutcheon.

They're really not very similar players.

They look alike. That's what I meant by twin. McCutcheon looks like the better player and the more prototypical centerfielder.

What player(s) would have to come with Rios, and be sent by the Mets in order to justify the Mets picking up 100% of Rios' contract, assuming the Mets will try to make a deal for Rios?

I agree. We have to build a team for Citi Field and having the best defensive RF in the game patrolling that vast an area would be great. His power numbers might (and probably will) go down but remember, he still hasn't hit his ceiling. He's a doubles machine and that won't change at Citi. If we can do a deal involving a B level player or prospect like Nick Evans. I would pull the trigger.

A Fossil? He is 27 years old, in 5 years he will be Carlos Beltran's age, is Beltran a "Fossil"?

You start by sending Church, who could command 4 mil plus.

Add a couple of middling young arms.... and a solid C prospect (yes...sorry...might be Thole)....

From Jays.....in addition to Rios......

KEVIN MILLAR

T J BEAM

and

DAVE DELUCCI
