Bone bruise is the same size, but he's tired of waiting to get better.

Post page 58.

It's potentially good Met news.

Of course it's on page 58....

While I don't advocate playing hurt that could lead to a bigger issue down the line, does anyone know what the long term implications of him playing for 2 months on this would be?

Its not exactly like he was struggling while playing "hurt" before he shut it down-- in fact, you could argue he was having maybe his best season yet (2006 he hit for more power, but he's never shown the BA/OBP skills he had this year).

I'm more concerned about Reyes doing some serious hamstring damage while trying to play hurt (and playing at a lower level) than I am if Beltran can only play 5/7 and its a pain tolerance thing, because he was playing really well even with this issue and it doesn't appear to be something that causes him to change his style of play.

When Sheff comes back, and Beltran, you have 4 guys for 3 outfield spots anyway if you wanna keep Pagan in the rotation. Play Angel 2x a week in left and 1-2x a week in CF and everyone stays fresh??

Absolutely terrible idea. This bone bruise can become larger and then he would need micro fracture. It not improving doesn't imply playing on it is a good idea.

Admire the gumption; question the sense.

He's been critical of the Mets advice, yet speeds up timetable. Something incongruous about that.

If that were true I am 100% positive the Mets would not be letting him try a comeback.

So either this is a "leverage" story the Mets asked Beltran to put out there, or he was assured by the Colorado doctor that this wasn't a possibility.

Players don't make the call on whether they want to play ignoring all sorts of conventional medical opinion...and if they do, we have a lot of apologizing to the medical staff to do.

Jd he wasn't critical of the mets advice, the mets hid info from him.

Beltran says the sharp pain he had a month ago is gone. That's why he's stepping up workouts.

On what planet is an injury that caused him to miss weeks of time and use crutches something you play on when its NOT getting better? He may need surgery as it is as it has shown zero improvement. There may be a blood flow issue in his knee.

here was the initial report

"Update: GM Omar Minaya said in a Thursday press conference that an MRI on Beltran over the All-Star break revealed that the right knee bone bruise did not shrink “sufficiently” to allow him to resume full baseball activity, according to David Lennon of Newsday."

So it hasn't improved at all HIS WORDS so what has changed to allow him to resume full baseball activity? Omar didn't allow it before, no improvement has occurred thus awful decision.

So long as a doctor completely clears him, it's fine, but perhaps caution is still warranted.
The best-case scenario is the Mets could have Beltran back in three weeks, but there are no guarantees because bone bruises are notoriously slow to heal and Beltran has been ordered to avoid baseball activities until he is entirely pain free.

Beltran's bruise also more than doubled in size over the past month after he played on it following a cortisone shot. Not only that, but the Mets let slip today that there is more than one bruise in the knee.
Yeah totally sounds like he should be playing on it.
