A pipe dream Im sure but this is gonna garner interest from EVERYONE. Also, I dont have an innovative title, sorry

Would they trade in division? Package him with Uggla? This could be interesting

Its from a small blog but this could be the break we were looking for. A #2 who won't cost as much $$ as Halladay or Lackey and is younger than both.

Sources tell us, that this afternoon the Marlins and Johnson’s representatives reached a breaking point that culminating with Johnson letting the Marlins know he’d prefer to play elsewhere. We’re told JJ wants to sign a one year deal and leave as soon as he can.

Given the situation that Johnson finds himself in, potential free agent in 2011, it appears more and more to feel like the Marlins will explore their options on the trade market with Johnson

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick is reporting that contract extension talks between Josh Johnson and the Marlins have reached an impasse, and that the righthander will not agree to a new deal with the team at all.

"Based on our conversations, there's no chance of doing a long-term deal with the Marlins," [Johnson's agent Matt] Sosnick said. "We made it clear that it was going to be this year or it wasn't going to happen. It was now or never. And the Marlins agreed."

Sosnick says that Johnson made it clear he wanted to remain with the team, "but they just weren't comfortable going to the fourth year." Marlins' GM Michael Hill wouldn't comment on the negotiations as per team policy.

The 25-year-old Johnson had a 3.23 ERA in 33 starts for the Marlins this year, making his first All Star Team. The righty earned $1.45MM in 2009, and has two more years of arbitration eligibility remaining before he hits the free agent market. Sosnick added that given his age and performance, Johnson's next contract could be worth nine figures.

I say you go for it if you're going to go for it.

Josh Johnson, Adrian Gonzalez via trade
Matt Holliday via FA, maybe even John Lackey

And there's your team.

Likely would cost quite a bit.

And no way the Marlins trade him in-division.

Well...

ike, niese, wilmer, tejada, murphy for adrian

Holliday for 6/105
Lackey for 4/64
Bengie for 2/18

CONTENDAH. And you keep Havens, Thole and Kirk.

Reyes/Wright/Adrian/Holliday/Beltran/Francoeur/Bengie/Castillo

they've traded everyone in the division.

If you can trade Mike Piazza you can trade johnson.

I know different regimes, but same economic theory.

Hate to disappoint you Tej, but that's not even close to enough for Josh Johnson.

They did so with Delgado, LoDuca, Willingham, and Olsen.

Big difference, in that Johnson isnt making a ton of money next year or so. Previous trades they made, were for financial reasons, dumps (Delgado, Lo Duca).

Trust me, a 25 yr old righty who made a very impressive and solid return from injury and surgery and possesses an ability to dial it up into the mid to upper 90s, is going to garner a huge amount of suitors, probably a large number of teams who can easily outbid us with better prospects, in quality, and quantity.

That said, if Omar doesnt at least inquire, he's not doing his job. He should at least make some calls and get an idea whats going on there.

Johnson is already considered a budding ace.

The latter three players arent even close to the talent level of Johnson. The only one is Delgado, who, was a straight up salary dump.
