He'll play 2B/1B/LF.

Quote:
Daniel Murphy wanted to contribute as a pinch hitter to the Mets in September, but his rehab from a knee injury suffered in a takeout slide with Triple-A Buffalo wasn't rapid enough to allow for it. However, the organization plans to send Murphy to the Dominican Republic this winter. Murphy primarily will play second base. He also should see action at first base and in left field.

ESPN's Adam Rubin.

Woah, that he is going to primarily play 2b is huge.

Look forward to seeing how he progresses.

If he can pull it off, he'll be a great spring training story next year.

If he can somehow become an average 2B, his offensive abilities become really valuable.

I'm THRILLED about that.

I don't think Murph would ever have more than above average range at 2B, but he'd be one of those guys who throws himself all over the field in an effort to get to every ball.

If he can hold down 2nd, his bat could be an asset.

IF he can play 2B, there's some Kelly Johnson-type upside there.

Also makes jettisoning Castillo all the more likely (his replacement would then cost, what, 500K?).
