The Mets have signed Venezuelan catcher Jose Garcia. Bonus terms were not immediately available.
A 16-year-old from San Felipe, Garcia was considered one of the top catchers this year. He's a 5-foot-11, 180-pound switch-hitter with a line-drive swing and good catch-and-throw skills. A complete scouting report on Garcia is available only for Baseball America subscribers, who can read about other top Latin American prospects for July 2 this year as well.

Well i am happy we are getting some young depth to our catcher ranks. We don't really have much there at all that excites me. Hopefully this kid can develop eventually but at least we have another piece in there.
Rings a bell now, and I'm sure 6 months ago I probably commented somewhere on it.
Just more meant that, prior to the post in the International Signings thread, if someone came to me on the street and said "Quick! name the Mets biggest 2011 International Sign!" and when I stumbled they said "Hint: He got the biggest bonus of any signing in the NL East" and I continued to stumble and they said "C'mon! I'll give you a hint, it wasn't the Pata de Pollo guy - he was the second biggest signing in that class that was the most the most expensive of any in the division, and 12th overall in the league" I would've looked at you like you had six heads and definitely would have never gotten Jose Garcia.
Just saying, the could've done a much better job publicizing this, especially in light of all the criticism they get both in a macro sense these days, and have pretty much always got on amateur spending.
