Kazmir will make sense once the Mets announce the new team doctor is Dr. Emmett Brown.
Or that the flipcam video Scott claimed was his workout last week was actually a start from August 2007. Had the dual effect of making him look a lot more impressive and creating an illusion that instead of the reported 10 scouts in attendance, there was something like 30,000.
I love how the report got rosier. Wasn't the initial Kazmir workout report he was throwing mid-80's touching 89? At least according to Olney it was: https://twitter.com/#!/Buster_ESPN/stat ... 3121/embed .. Now Rubin says he was "registering in the upper-80's with some low-90's readings".
Can't wait to sign him and then have Rich Coutinho or some other beat writer, without a radar gun on hand, suddenly be impressed by the "pop" of the catcher's mitt from Kazmir's fastball, so much so that he *must* be throwing in the 90's!

Kazmir's mother Debbie is one of the nicest people around. I hope we sign Kazmir. At least it's something to follow vs. Miguel Batista (no offense to the poet) but been there, done that.

Rotoworld says 86-89 and touched 91.

I think I put it in the initial Kazmir thread that Buster's report got rosier as that day went on and I said something to the effect of "Gotta love second hand anonymous velocity scouting reports from a controlled environment that contradict each other."
He reported two different scouts' readings. First:
Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN Reply Retweet Favorite · Open Scott Kazmir threw at about 86-87 mph today, touched 89 mph in his workout; that's better than last season with LAA. About 10 scouts there.
Then about 5 minutes later:
Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN Reply Retweet Favorite · Open Second scout said he had Kazmir at 88-89 mph, touching 91 mph at his workout today
But yes, you know those bullpen sessions will write themselves. And then when he gets into a game and its 84-85, we'll get the "Its not all about velocity" spin. I cringe thinking about the reports on Santana we're going to get all spring - if you watch the video yesterday on SNY of his bullpen, its obvious he's doing nothing more than essentially playing catch off a mound.

Oh yeah, I'm all for it, but its only because its Kazmir and I have no expectations that we'll be any good, or he'll be any good. He'll almost certainly be terrible. But I'm a sucker for a redemption story.
OTOH, I have literally 0 interest in Chris Young being signed and brought up in August. And I actually liked the CY signing last year.
However, NMig is right, the Coutinho's of the world may make this turn from "awesome" to "frustrating as hell" on my enjoyment meter if we get the spin that he's "back" or something after a few side sessions.

Toby notes that apparently Reese Havens will be exposed to all of IF positions this year?
Not that its bad to increase versatility, and I've always made the case that if Havens becomes Murphy you'd GLADLY take that so those who want to cast Murph aside from Havens have a bad case of "shiny new toy" syndrome, but thats a pretty clear indication they don't see him as the heir apparent at 2B, right? Or at the very least, see him as very equivalent to Murphy and envision eventually a competition there, with the loser becoming something of a bat-first super-sub around the IF?
Collins is eager to see solid-hitting second baseman Reese Havens, who was taken in the same first round as Davis in 2008. Havens … will work exclusively at second base in camp. Collins said once he gets to the minors to open the year he would be exposed to other positions, too.
Bat becomes a lot less interesting anywhere but 2b unless they are playing him at SS (which I highly doubt). No issue with him being exposed to "other positions" but shouldn't he be getting lots of 2b reps? He's not exactly experienced there.

Lol you beat me to it. That said.... TC says a lot of stuff that never ends up happening.

Interesting. Apparently has visa problems which I assume the other players know... did he wait too long and his fault?

And while the reports have been fine, the error rate has been startling. 2B is not typically a high error position - Reese has 13 in just 83 games there in his fractured career. Thats a lot so clearly he has some work to do there to get more consistent.
