The opposite of Josh Edgin of course is Rafael Montero, who if not for the uniform, probably would have been presumed to be a coach's young son getting a crack at the cages.

Byrdak is the new player rep. Must have been the gravitas he showed with the Hulk Hogan impersonation.
Seriously, I like the fact that Thole isn't doing it anymore. I've thought he has enough on his plate trying to a major league catcher.

David Lennon @DPLennon Reply Retweet Favorite · Open Reese Havens, annually touted as future star at 2B, being held out of workouts as he nurses stiff back. #Mets
Can we put a moratorium on ever discussing Havens as a option here until at least this time next year? That way we know more about Daniel Murphy: 2nd Baseman and also we can see if Reese is even ready by performance standards, which right now, even if he were healthy, he isn't.
He can't stay on the field, EVER, and even unlike Fernando who had mostly stop gaps and role players in his "path", his position is currently filled by one of very few cheap, productive guys who should be here for a while, so there is no guarantee that even if he were healthy and ripping up AAA this year (and I presume he'll probably start at AA, to boot) he'd be called up, except maybe in September and get some time as a utility guy.

Someone needs to do a documentary -- or at least a long-form SI article -- about the long list of guys with all of the talent in the world but bodies that simply will allow them to play. There is such a huge chasm between failing on the merits and not being given the opportunity because your bones and tendons don't work. That has to be torture, to be failed by your body as opposed to your mind/drive without finding out whether you deserve to play at the highest level.
