How many spots to fill?

Vicente Padilla won't make it thru the year, but he's a big league starter when he's healthy. He's fine as a 5.

He's also an all-time a**hole.

I also still kind of like Doubront, but he's probably more of a pen arm.

We went after Aceves in the past but no way he's available. He had a really nice year. If he doesn't start he'll be in their pen. Talk about an underrated pitcher.... 114 games at the MLB level with a 2.93 era 1.08 whip.

I dont usually frequent the comments pages of Metsblog, but I definitely laughed-out-loud at this:

Following an article that ends with:

Quote:
Conti told him he’d like to see Pelfrey get to a point when no one wants to warm up with Mike, because catching his fastball will be too difficult…

I thought no one wanted to play catch with Pelf due to the saliva spinning off the ball and slapping in the glove. It's very off putting.

Marcum is a nice pitcher when healthy but....

Quote:
Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said Monday that Shaun Marcum (shoulder) will be shut down for the next 2-3 days.
Marcum felt continued soreness playing catch Sunday and Monday and will not make his Cactus League debut as scheduled on March 10. No tests are scheduled at this time, but Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel wouldn't be surprised if he received an injection. Marcum dealt with a similar issue last spring and managed to start the season on the active roster, so the Brewers are confident they can follow the same path this spring.

I have a feeling that will be one of those trades where Brewers fans cry many tears. Lawrie looks like a potential superstar.

Marcum's health scares the heck out of me. He's a good pitcher when healthy but I would want nothing to do with giving him a multi year deal. Brewers should focus on locking up Greinke instead. Let Marcum walk.

I only noticed two pitches where I thought Harvey threw the slider. One was that DP ball and the other was a low ball right on the outside of the plate which could have been called a strike. The other 87-89 were all up in the zone like Metro said so unless he just couldn't command it I don't think he threw it that often.

Nmig,
You watched the game.... do you think those 89's Harvey were throwing resembled a sinker in any way?

I thought all of his 87-89 pitches were 2-seamers. They didn't seem to have action that resembled anything other than a fastball, though I suppose they could have also been some changeups. Whatever it was, he had trouble commanding it, likewise with a lot of his pitches. But it's early and I'm sure we'll get a more extended look at him at some point this spring.

To be clear... I 100% wasn't judging Harvey's stuff or reading much into his performance. Just stating those pitches were not sinkers (and if they were) they stunk.

Carson threw a BP this morning and Cerrone notes he has worked exclusively from the stretch this spring, maybe another sign that he is going to be permanently moved to relief.

Carlos Guillen, who we almost wasted a few minutes of our lives watching early this spring if Sandy had nabbed him, has retired.

Jon Heyman's analysis is so arbitrary. How many "love the fits" did we get this offseason for crappy retreads, and he just penned an article wondering if Andrew McCutchen was really worth the contract the Pirates just gave him.

Nah, I think the Pirates would be better off saving that money for when Ryan Theriot comes back on the market next year.
