I expect seven of eight position players starting Saturday's game to be homegrown -- lone exception Jason Bay in left field.

That's all sorts of odd for a New York team. But I approve because there's a lot of talent in that bunch.

That will be 8 starters who played for St. Lucie.

And on Sunday I think it will be 8 in the starting lineup

Yes, this is nice thought but it only has meaning if these guys are good players. With the exception of Wright, Davis and to a lesser extent Duda the rest of the homegrown starters do not start on the majority of teams in baseball.

Makes me smile at those NYFS faithful who make 2-3 year roster projections with all home-grown players

Daniel Murphy and Ruben Tejada say Hi.

Realistically.... Ike starts on most teams, Wright obviously on 98% of baseball, Duda starts on probably 40% and Murphy probably starts on 50-60%. Thole isn't a starter on most teams, Tejada INC, Kirk INC

Murphy is the Mets starting 2B by default and Tejeda still has a lot to prove. In the long run I think Tejeda could be a decent starting SS especially with his glove. But there is no way Murphy should be thought of as a long term solution at the position.

It is a bit far fetched to have Murphy labeled '2B by default'. If not for Davis/Duda he would be on first and likewise if Wright was not our third baseman. His bat puts him as a starter even though he has no glove whatsoever.

Thole is in the middle to bottom tier of catchers and the recent emergences of guys like Posey, Arencibia, Ramos, and Avila make it apparent that there can certainly be an upgrade.

I think it's very difficult to guess Tejada's ceiling. Very, very young for a major leaguer, still.

I think Thole is a spot that, unless he makes big strides, would look really nice in the context of our lineup being replaced by a competent RH-hitter.

Would be easier to imagine Kirk stepping in for Bay long-term in the OF if that were the case.
