Olson gets out of the mess with a shallow fly to RF from Sutton and a groundout from Simmons.

So he gets the two righties after hitting the lefty...

Olson hits the major league lefty, retires the minor league righties.

Keeps that sparkling small sample spring ERA glowing, though.

For reference, righties are 2 for 14 vs. Olson, 0 BBs, 3 Ks. Lefties are 1 for 5, 1 BB, 0 K's.

Valdespin singles and steals a base.

Anyway, here's the new SNY scoreboard:

Image

The pitch counter and balls/strikes counter switch depending on which team is at bat. For instance, Mets pitching/Braves batting, the pitch count will be under the "NYM" part of the board while the balls/strikes count will be under the "ATL" side of the board.

I really like it.

After retiring the pitcher, Olson gives up a hit to the lefty Bourn.

Bourn steals 2nd and takes 3rd on a wild pitch. Then Olson walks Jack Wilson.

Trouble brewing with Freeman and Hinske coming up.

I really hope Parnell doesn't ditch his slider in favor of the new knuckle-curve he appears to be throwing; the slider misses a ton of bats.

We are productive-outing this inning to death.

And NMig - the switch has been made. He discussed it during pitchers and catchers and of course the press followed the rhetoric of "He has a big fastball, but needs a better secondary pitch" rather than figuring out the truth.

Certainly think the use of the 2 seamer more and better fastball command, which he appears to be showing, would be the bigger factor in him achieving greater success, not eliminating his really good swing and miss slider. But who knows. Guess I defer to the "pro's" on that.

The good news is that he's been very good this spring with the new pitch and we're no longer in danger of hearing whispers of Miguel Batista being carried over him like we got early in spring (altho we can't shake Batista anyway).
