I know there are several people on this board who have followed spring training more closely than I have, so I was curious to get some impressions, and also to get information aboout what the mets org and the league are saying about him, if anything has been read.
The reason I'm asking is because I had a conversation yesterday with a friend of mine, who works in player development for the Texas Rangers, and is a rabid Mets fan that doesn't quite have the time to follow them daily anymore. He said the word around the league is that Nimmo has generally been unimpressive this spring. I don't know what he heard or who he heard it from, so I'm asking you guys if you know anything. Thanks,

I don't know specifically, but I think the idea that Nimmo has been "unimpressive" might stem from the fact that he is going to stick around extended spring before heading to Brooklyn (presumably). There aren't a whole lot of people who had eyes on him enough to know day-to-day impressions, but maybe there is someone here with an ear to the ground.

Just to add a little info after speaking with my friend, he told me he asked a scout, and was told that Nimmo has been too passive at the plate, and didn't put good swings at the ball

Nothing to see here IMO. Not saying I don't appreciate your friends thoughts as it is interesting to hear what others think but here you have an 18 year old kid who came from a very unique situation in HS playing in a state with HS ball, where all his experience was Legion and other all-star events. Combine that with facing pro ball for the first time and also how badly Ike struggled initially and it adds up that its too soon to tell. He still has an amazing swing and great command for his age and experience level.

I don't that he struggled that badly. Anyone see any of the game reports? Had Nimmo hitting against other a-ballers that would the be in extended as well. That is impressive in itself, especially for a kid with no high school baseball, and just summer leagues under his belt. To me, it was rather impressive.

DePo already discredited this claim, saying in his chat the other day he doesn't have any less experience than other top HS kids, just that his came playing legion ball instead of with his HS team.
Lets not get too crazy on the defenses here guys. If "Aww shucks he's just happy to be here" was the proper approach with Nimmo, he wouldn't have been given $2.1m and plucked 13th overall in a historically strong draft.
Its not a big deal overall that he's being left behind YET, but the idea that there are no expectations for him to perform and perform well and perform quickly is silly. That was a serious investment in this kids' talents and there was a seriously high opportunity cost of talent left on the board to take him instead.

I'm also not sure we can discount Nimmo starting next year in St. Lucie. There isn't a clear pattern to the Mets placements/decisions. Fulmer is essentially skipping rookie/short season, Mazzoni skipped Savannah but Verrett won't be, Harvey was merely "solid" in AA and he's being promoted. Marte is being bumped to AA early. Granted there are certainly explanations for each move but I just don't think it's clear that Nimmo is 100% locked in to BK this year, Savannah next year etc and if he is so be it. He'd still be 20 in Savannah next year.

You think that Nimmo will be in Savannah some time this year?

The supposed schedule is extended then BK but I'm sure if he shows well in BK he could end the season in Savannah. I'm sure it's fluid. A strong showing in BK likely means he can at least "survive" in St. Lucie a year from now and if it's Savannah till mid-2013 and then St. Lucie... he'll still be 21 in 2014 with .5 a year of St. Lucie under his belt. The issue is him producing on the field in 2012. If he does that then the "timeline" means very little. If he struggles majorly in BK then we can begin to worry a bit.
