Fun first weekend. Only saw about half of the game on Saturday and listened to a few innings yesterday in between destinations, but doesn't really seem like (although I'm sure if I watched yesterday in the late innings I would've felt differently) either game was much ever in doubt late, which is nice.
Revamped bullpen has came to play early, and by that I really mean Francisco. I don't exactly know what it is, but it seems like the 91 mph fastballs that were being tattoo'ed in ST are now suddenly 92-93 mph fastballs that are blowing by people. Its not a huge jump in velocity, but apparently its enough to completely turn the way he looks around. I was a BIT surprised TC went to him again yesterday, with no off-day today, but the sweep was a real nice thing to lock down in the first series of the season.
Eventually, the bullpen is going to give up a run, so hopefully we can move out of the constant "save situation" games late, but I think clearly the blueprint is there: unlike OD, this team will put guys on base, and then its up to someone cleaning up with some good RISPy hitting. "Sneaky good OBP" is how I saw someone describe it, and I think thats it. And then obviously we've finally got a lineup (and a ballpark) that can occasionally knock one out of the park, which is always nice. When the pitching is going the way it looked the first 3 games, they'll obviously win some games. But I think theres going to be more games than not where the pitching + defense is going to have to be covered up by more hitting, but thankfully that wasn't really the case.
Anyway, fun start to the year, and hopefully they can ride it out a bit longer and be one of those "Are they for real?" teams as the calendars turn to May and we can all start believing a bit. And the Braves' inauspicious start makes my doom and gloom predictions on them look good, at least for one weekend in April anyway.
Also, Martino's trying to steal my thunder:
Andy Martino @SurfingTheMets Reply Retweet Favorite · Open Ran the idea by a lot of people this spring that Braves were sleeper bad team. Most agreed. Mets clearly outclassed them this weekend.

Even if the Mets don't make the playoffs, if the Braves have an absolutely horrible season capped by Chipper retiring and being replaced by nobody, that would distract some of our potential sadness. Not that anyone actually cares about the team -- save a few southerners -- but they had perhaps the worst offseason in baseball.
I look forward to them giving up on Jason Heyward one season too early.

Definitely unimpressed with the Braves lineup. The rotation has plenty of question marks too with Hanson & Jurjeins trying to get themselves back into form and Hudson coming off injury. They'll need a huge bounceback year from Heyward and continued improvement from Freeman to have a decent lineup, IMO.

Now if we can only get rid of the Wilpons and replaced them with Mark Cuban the STO master plan can be complete!
