Bottom line: It's not just Mike Piazza and Edgardo Alfonzo the Mets honored in identical fashion. The likes of Turk Wendell -- who returned with the PHILLIES -- got the treatment.
Heck, as one team insider noted, "We even did it for Todd Pratt."
Considering Turk Wendell and Todd Pratt are two of the most legendary Mets EVER, not sure I agree with this so-called "insider's" snarky commentary.
Regardless, non-issue, really. As Coutinho and Fake Coutinho already said.
Mike doing his best to troll met fans because the mets are doing this..
Francesa is being a real imbecile here. And any time someone brings up a good point, he changes the subject back to "what was Reyes' Met moment?" I listened on my lunch break, and if I had time to call, I'd destroy Francesa right now. But here are some Reyes "Met moments."
-Leadoff HR in Game 6 of the 2006 NLCS. -Hitting for the cycle. -Scoring the only run in Game 2 of 2006 NLDS.
...aside from this, Francesa keeps saying how "only winners can be considered great players or have tributes." What the hell has Ted Williams or Ernie Banks ever won - not comparing them as players to Reyes, just demonstrating how idiotic Francesa's opinion is.
...he also brushed off the fact that the Yankees gave the much less deserving and not homegrown Johnny Damon a tribute.
...then Francesa said the fact that Reyes leads the Mets all-time in most offensive categories is moot because the Mets have had "no great players ever." He's such an unreal douche.
And I don't even WANT the Mets to play a Reyes tribute video.

Wait, wut?
I wouldn't call them legendary, I'd call them fan favorites. In Pratt's case, he's linked to one of the biggest HR's in team history, but he isn't legendary.
Legendary Mets are Seaver, Piazza, Hernandez, Carter, etc.

I caught the beginning of Francesa's show and he's just being ridiculous.
Others have made a lot of the points, but I'd add that the idea that playing a highlight video for five minutes before the game somehow precludes you from trying to beat him once the game starts is silly.

Great post, Tim. I was on my lunch break listening to him too, and in typical Francesca fashion, he continuously repeats his own question in order to avoid having to answer anyone elses. I find myself switching more and more to 1050 these days, even though all they do is talk Knicks lately (which is annoying to me being a diehard Celts fan).

You could also argue that playing the video brings a measure of closure.
If they didn't do it, there would be some people accusing them of sour grapes for ignoring one of their best players on his return.

So nobody called to ask Mike what was Donnie Baseball's Yankee moment? I mean he never won anything and in fact, he seemed to be in between two dynasties yet is beloved.

The trick is to not listen in the first place.

Is Lennon serious about this? lol
DPLennon #Mets Ok with Reyes video tribute, but from now on, will not show out-of-town scores when NL East rivals are winning. Or Yankees. 3 minutes ago · reply · retweet · favorite
