1. Turner is going down. No, TC said he'll be making a start in the nightcap.
2. With another 24 hours to think about it, Sandy decided he couldn't stomach Kirk's defense in CF. No, Kirk is in the lineup, playing CF.
3. Sandy has decided to send Batista packing after the first game. Maybe, but then you'd be short a reliever. So that makes absolutely no sense.
4. This has something to do with the doubleheader. No, the 26-man roster doesn't apply to single-admission doubleheaders. And Bumgarner is pitching in the nightcap, so if anything a righty bat would be promoted.
Doesn't sound like anyone else is reacting to it being the 26-man rule, so I guess he's right now.
I don't really like it. I think Valdespin's future role is more utility player than starter, but I don't think he's ready to handle Major League pitching. The corresponding move should be interesting; have to imagine either Cedeno or Turner will be on the hook. Turner is a TC favorite so maybe they cut Cedeno who really doesn't have much of a purpose on this roster anyway.
Would be great, but if so, would've preferred Scales take his place at this point, I think.
But I would take either Scales or Jordany over Cedeno.
I do too worry about Jordany vs. major league pitching, but if there is one positive here, while his BB rate is SLIGHTLY up, his contact has been way better this year (obvious small sample size disclaimers) which was a big issue with his first taste of AAA. He's always going to be a fairly flawed player and that keeps him from ever being a starting option, IMO, but I think he has enough athleticism and underrated pop in his bat to be a fairly productive bench option. Certainly more so than having Cedeno here to be the 3rd RH bat off the bench (behind 2 underwhelming other pinch hitters, to be honest) and take an 0-fer every 10 games or so when you rest Tejada.
If I had to speculate, I think Cedeno gets cut. I think the org may have realized having he and Turner on the bench is fairly redundant. You lose some late-game defense without Cedeno but Valdespin adds more speed and pop, plus a left-handed stick and the ability to play some CF.
Maybe Bay is hurt. I know he's been playing through the jammed finger, but perhaps it's that injury acting up or something different? It has to be either that or Cedeno getting cut (or a trade).
If Bay is hurt, you can play Valdespin in CF, shift Kirk to RF, and move Duda to LF. If it's not that, Valdespin is here to ride the bench.

I'm with you on all but Number 1.
We've seen TC and Sandy be on different pages before on things and another one of TC's "Let me just say whats on my mind here while Adam Rubin is near me" with regards to Turner playing the nightcap, 36 hours before the game is to be played, hardly says to me thats undeniable proof his roster spot is safe.
I'd be really surprised if they just ate Cedeno's guaranteed 1.3m after 2 weeks. They were targeting a player exactly like him all winter and gave one of their bigger financial commitments since they've been here (seriously) to him obviously with a role in mind. I think JT, with his options and really undefined role here, is the far likelier candidate of the two, as much as I don't like that, to be shipped out with the idea of bringing a "different look" to the bench or whatever.
I guess if there were some positives about Valdespin's game in AAA this season it's that he's made tons of contact and is walking a little more than he typically does; in other words, AAA pitchers aren't exactly eating him alive. It does appear to be coming at the expense of power though.
I know I'm always trade-starved so this is certainly that acting up again, but did any team lose a middle infielder over the weekend and could we be dealing Turner/Cedeno for a bag of balls to somebody who is hurting for depth, not unlike Byrd/Red Sox?
