AdamRubinESPN Terry Collins cryptically said there is a player who may be disabled in next hour

Bay is on my list. As is Frank Francisco

Gotta believe if he had ANY OF experience he'd be up by now. Sort of disappointing that they seemingly "preferred" Satin last time.

I think the idea that the role was to sit on the bench played heavily into that.

Also, there's this:

Terry Collins cryptically said there is a player who may be disabled in next hour.

Hence the cryptic tweets by the MLB.com and SNY guys?

I don't really get Bay - the finger thing was forever ago and he's played with it since and he's actually hit well. Additionally, the running into the wall thing also appeared to be a non-issue.

Cedeno phantom DL stint? If it was Francisco, I HAVE to believe someone other than Hefner would be the call-up. Either a second lefty to be able to "match up" more in the absence of a set 8-9 combo or at least a short-reliever as everyone moves up a "rung" on the bullpen ladder. Hefner has no relieving experience; he'd strictly be a long-man with plenty of warmup time needed to be useful. Maybe he'd be activated solely for purposes of covering Batista in the nightcap tonight and then a more usable reliever would replace him tomorrow?

Francisco is certainly GOING to go on the DL at point this year - this much we know. But I expect there to be a better bullpen option than Hefner waiting for the call.

It's not anybody in the rotation, per TC. 20 guesses!

The possibly-going-to-be DLd player is NOT Johan Santana. #Mets

I honestly didn't even allow myself to think that, but yeah, that should have been our first instinct probably. Luckily, its not (nor is it any other starting pitcher, per TC).

I have to think its either Frank Frank or a "phantom" DL stint (could be legit, but obviously we havent heard anything about either guy battling anything) for one of the middle infielders.

Sounds like Jeremy Hefner may end up active for Game 1 as a backup to Miguel Batista. That doesn't mean pitcher injured necessarily.

This could make sense.

Position player is hurt, who cares bench is down a man for 1 game, have a backup "long reliever" if needed; is then demoted after the game whether used or not for Valdespin to fill open bench spot? Could explain why both guys are here.

I think the taxi-squad thing is a smart idea whether theres an injury or not when you have a doubleheader, but certainly sounds like this move was made directly related to an injury.

It's probably safe to assume it's not either catcher that is hurt.

Mike Baxter is starting in left field for game one because he wants to get him in the lineup. Jason Bay and Scott Hairston will play in the outfield in game two

-TC, per Metsblog.

Safe to assume its not Bay or Hairston? Or is TC being coy?

It's also probably safe to assume it's not someone in the Game 1 starting lineup, though not 100% certain.

Cedeno or Turner seem like the most likely guys
