Frank Frank is definitely the most logical bet; has a known issue, performance has been terrible, etc.

But Hefner and Valdy would be a very odd duo brought in to cover a Frank Frank injury.

I'd say the injury is to a position player.

Prior to game 1 you put position player on DL and activate Hefner as Batista insurance.

Between games you send Hefner/Batista packing and activate Valdespin.

Right, I agree. I said something similar a page back or so. Just saying, Frank Frank is the only "known" injury right now and certainly wouldn't shock anyone to see his down velocity and shaky command be related to the knee and they decide to just shut him down for a few weeks and hope it gets better.

Anyone else, and its either been unreported to date or is somewhat "phantom" to allow both a full bullpen for game 1 and then a bench improvement (likely) thereafter.

Ronny Cedeno has not been out with his teammates during batting practice.

Best. Case. Scenario.

And hopefully TC was being coy with this "DL" thing and its really just a release.

It's Cedeno per Rubin

Ronny Cedeno is likely going to DL, I'm hearing.

Injury diagnosis: Redundancy.

Cedeno likely going to the DL. That probably means Hefner takes his spot and then he or Batista is dropped for Valdespin afterward, as sluger alluded to. Makes sense. I would have definitely preferred Lutz though.

Yeah. If you think of Cedeno's only contributing role so far (late inning 2B defensive replacement; once every 2 weeks spot starter at SS), Valdy fills neither. So while Valdy is "closer" to the player Cedeno is as far as being a guy with some speed, middle infield abilities to some degree, etc, he's really not playing the same role Cedeno was, and in that case, go with "best available player" for the spot, and its Lutz (IMO).

DL instead of DFA takes any non-40 man guys out of the running (i.e., Scales).

Already knew the Cedeno news when I opened this thread, so it was fun to see how everyone's thought process evolved. I probably would have been praying for some kind of Turner trade and seeing tea leaves that were not there (*cough*MJ*cough*) but all's well that ends well.
