Why the hell did we activate Hefner if we're just going to leave Batista out there to roast? What is Terry Collins doing?
Down 5, let him roast. Then cut him after the game, and don't use up Hefner in case of a short start by Gee tonight. Activate Jordany for Miggy.
You know what? This makes sense. If Batista isn't cut after this game, my point stands, but you're probably right.
It's a shame that we have so little pitching depth that we're basically giving up on the game before it even starts when we put our 6th starter out there. I'm a big Sandy Alderson fan, but this is one area where he really messed up.

This is why you DONT need a dedicated long reliever who stinks like Batista just because he has the label of long reliever: TC uses Acosta, Ramirez and Parnell for "long" outings as much as he does Batista.
You wouldn't "spot start" those guys, but as we learned today, you wouldn't spot start Batista either.

This is one of those games that is going almost exactly as it seemed like it might before the first pitch was thrown.

Another reason to hopefully believe this is the end of the line for Batista; Santana, who hasn't gone past 5 IP in any outing yet, goes tomorrow, and no off-day in site for another 10 days (h/t to Andy Martino).
With another game coming tonight and Dillon Gee not exactly an "innings eater", typically, bullpen could get taxed significantly if its pitching down at least 1 (maybe Acosta too, depending on his outing today) over the next few days.

Down to 3 bench players now.
