Captain Kirk puts a charge into one (that is almost caught) that ends up a triple.

It's been 35 to 40 years, but I recall the early 70s Mets has having been undermined a good deal by key injuries.
The 1969 team was young at most positions and the pitching was strong for several years, but things always seemed to go wrong.
Even the 1973 team was riddled by injuries, which is why they were muddling along most of the year until they caught fire in September. And even then, their star position player, Rusty Staub, finished with what was essentially a separated shoulder.

I was surprise to learn -- just now -- that the Mets were up 3-2 in the series against the A's. I had always assumed they were down the whole time. Not sure why I didn't know they lost two straight WS clinchers. Seems like something I'd be aware of.

Great to see the thrill of the triple return to Citi. First of the year for the Mets.

I remember they were actually favored in game 7 because Matlack was on the mound.

Gameday shows an injury delay after Wrights double. What was that about?
Ozzie went out to look at Hanley's hand (?) but didn't look like anything really happened.
All is well in Metland.
P.S. Niese looks awesome today.
