It really is an interesting dilemma. If the Mets were doing lousy we'd all probably say let him work out his problems here. But since the Mets are teasing us early in the season like they have the past few years, does Ike stay or go?

Send him down if he's not hitting by the end of the week.

He's been so bad that I'd probably send him down if he's still hitting like this when Bay comes back. The Mets have something of a roster crunch-and a surplus of outfielders-with Bay on the team. Send Ike down and you improve the team while hopefully solving whatever his problems are.

If the slump keeps up and Bay is ready to go, you send Ike down and move Duda to 1B.

I agree. Duda at 1b with a combination of Bay/Baxter/Torres/Kirk in the OF would be fine. It's getting almost hard to watch Ike up there. He needs a few weeks to have pressure free ab's. Maybe it takes 1 week, maybe it's a month but it doesn't look like he's going to break out on his own.

I think we have to send him down at this point. He is clearly not right. Plenty of players have gone down and come back up and regained their form and have been big stars, Ike can too. But right now he is just brutal.

it just doesn't look like one of those slumps where he's getting unlucky. I think he needs 30-40 ab's where he can try things out, clear his head and not have it matter. Maybe I'm wrong and he'll go on fire starting tomorrow but I'd be somewhat surprised.

I wouldn't wait for Bay. I'd send him down now, move Duda to 1B, and call up Lagares (who has been red hot the last 10 games). I know Lagares isn't going to stick, but it wouldn't hurt to have him up for a couple of weeks while he has a hot bat.

Quote:
Mets manager Terry Collins said Wednesday that Ike Davis is "doubtful" to be demoted to the minor leagues.
Davis is batting just .167/.222/.310 in 36 games this year, but the Mets are willing to wait out his struggles in the hope that he's merely shaking off the rust from a shortened 2011 campaign. Davis does have five home runs this season and still owns a .772 career OPS.

Sorry but those 5 home runs mean little to nothing to me in the context of how he's looked.
