Well I mean, wasn't that always the presumption and what TC is now saying is NOT the case?

We were never really going to send Ike down for Matt Tuiasosopo or Josh Satin, were we?

Oh wait TC said something? Well that changes everything.

I guess Kirk's going down when Bay comes up then?

With Torres hitting the way he is? I don't know about that. But this is the roster conundrum I alluded to a week or so ago. There has to be a 'tough' cut here. Hairston is probably most redundant when Bay returns, but we'll have to see what happens. Maybe TC lied and Ike will end up in AAA (assuming he keeps stinking) when Bay gets back.

I dunno - do you really see them cutting guys on major league contracts (i.e., Torres and Hairston)? I don't.

I guess you could demote Turner but then you have a bench of (when everyone's back) 1 infielder, 1 catcher and 3 outfielders. That doesn't seem right, unless you're going to start giving Hairston, originally a (terrible) second baseman, grounders again?

Then its down to Kirk and Baxter as far as guys with options, and presumably, Baxter can't go down considering the pinch hitting aptitude shown (and no one else even remotely adept at it here), overall high level of play and the lessened role for Kirk upon Bay's arrival. I know you could simply sit Torres more but I'm REALLY not looking forward to going back to a Bay/Kirk/Duda outfield. Really not.

Assuming TC is not lying, and thats a BIG assumption, I'd HAVE to put the highest odds on Kirk going down.

Here's Collins pregame:

Quote:
Finally, Collins spoke more on not sending Ike Davis to the minors to work out his hitting woes. Instead of sending Davis to the minors, where he does not Davis will learn to adjust, Collins will try to put Davis in the lineup against the best possible matchups. Collins believes Davis will turn it around, as he has seen Davis be more aggressive during batting practice. Also, when speaking to Davis, Collins told him to be himself and concentrate on his foot and hand placement.

Kirk is 3-3 with a 2B and 2 walks as a PH.

I think the public proclamation was to get Ike feeling better. I still think he goes down if he doesn't turn it up. Rottino goes down for Thole. Ike goes down for Bay. And Turner goes down for Tejada. That is how I would work it unless Ike gets hot. If that happens then Hairston gets the axe for Bay's return.

There is no way you would keep Kirk up as a PH'er. I meant Baxter vs. the other bench guys.

And why would you keep 3 catchers?

I still get the feeling this will work its way out on its own, no matter what TC says.

Where has Duda's power gone? Only 1 HR and 3 2B's since April 28.

Wasn't Andres Torres supposed to be a placeholder until Kirk was ready? If that's the case, why would Sandy ever send down Kirk over Torres?

Injury updates from Rubin:
Quote:
• Shortstop Ruben Tejada will run the bases on Friday, and Collins hopes Tejada will be playing in minor-league rehab games by Monday. Tejada has been out since May 6 with a strained right quadriceps.

• Catcher Josh Thole has begun baseball activities again, including hitting, but has not gotten back behind the plate yet. Collins is hoping Thole will catch for an inning in extended spring training on Friday. Thole has been out since May 7 because of a concussion.

• Left fielder Jason Bay has begun taking live batting practice, and will hopefully start playing in a minor-league rehab game as a DH next week. Bay has been out since April 23 with a fractured rib.

I was hoping Tejada would be back quicker.
