I'm guessing that's one of the best marks for 20 year olds in the EL.

Marte is actually only one of a handful of hitters that are 21 or younger in the EL. His offensive production has easily been the top of the group and his OPS (prior to tonight) was 33rd overall in the league. That's really good.

To compare, Bryce Brentz, who is 2 years older than Marte and plays an outfield corner, has hit similarly (.795 OPS to Marte's .783 mark).

Just looked... Marte has the highest OPS of any player born in 1991 that is in the EL, in fact... it's not even close the only players CLOSE to him in age that are ahead of him are 1b Mike McDade (1989), 2b Cesar Hernandez (1990) and C Rob Brantly (1989)

They handled Pena absolutely brutally. Lagares, too. Tejada, three.

Not to say I like Pena - I don't, and haven't for years, but it's partially not his fault.

How did they mishandle Pena?

What does he project to be? Is he expected to develop power as he gets older and stronger? What is his destined position in your opinion? (I realize he's played 3rd all his life, but right now he doesn't have the power for that position in the majors)

It would be neat if minor league teams could "loan" players out to other farm systems (like soccer). Could help both parties (playing time at 3rd for Wilmer....better product on the field for random AA team) ...

Yeah, I don't know what the answer is (because Marte's no slouch) but you can't leave Wilmer in St Lucie all year. Obviously, you want to get them both as many 3b reps as possible. Just don't know what they can do.
