Looks like Bay is ready.
I don't mean to be cruel to Bay, but I honestly wonder if it's been addition by subtraction having him out of the lineup.
The guys who have replaced him all have flaws, but it seems as if many of them have also had their moments where they've contributed to wins, too.
Lame stats and slumps aside, I think one of the most frustrating things about him has been that except when he's been hurt, he's out there every day and you can still only count on one hand the number of times a year you'd say,"the Mets wouldn't have won that game without Jason Bay."
I don't want to predict failure, but I hope that if Bay continues along the path that his Mets career has taken that TC manages the way he's been managing the slumping Ike Davis. If Bay has struck out 3 times and there's a game-changing late RBI spot, pinch hit for him if there's a decent alternative available.

Chico, Bottom line is barring a "Delgado" like re-birth from Bay he is going to be phased out soon either way. He can't play "every day" next year because of the vested option and he won't be playing every day next year with Kirk, Duda, MDD, Lagares all either in the bigs or knocking on the door by this time next year.

What you say makes sense to me. I only hope it makes sense to the people making the decisions.
Believe me, I understand the fact that in the real world you treat a guy like Bay, who has all the attributes you want (except production), with a level of decency. For that reason, you don't humiliate him.
But I think the situation now is that it's up to him to play up to a certain standard, given the fact that the other guys have earned a level of respect, too. If he's a genuine team player, he'll understand that.

Luckily for all involved Bay only needs to sit a little more than an "every day" player to not reach 600 PA's. He could still be the "starter" and play "most" of the time and still be kept from the option. Not to be mean but the injury this year helped them out in that regard because if he reached 500 this year then stopping him from 500 next year would have been a bit tougher than 600 without being obvious.
