On this date in 1977 our beloved Tom Seaver was traded to the Reds. And i'm still very sad. :(

Interesting article by Bill Madden from 2007:

Now if we can only get rid of the Wilpons and replaced them with Mark Cuban the STO master plan can be complete!

If you were a Red fan in 77, I assume you were a Red fan in 73. :P

Today is also the day the Mets traded for Keith Hernandez in 1983.

This was a "shocking" trade. At least with Seaver , the fans had a pretty good idea that he was going to be traded. When the Mets got Keith, whatta shock that was. Thank you Whitey Herzog.

The beginning of the 'Dark Age' period at Shea. I can still remember the day after the trade Mets fans chanting, "M Donald Duck" in Derision at shea

I can't even imagine what it would have been like if the internet existed in those days

I remember it like it was yesterday. Used a service called "Sports Phone" to get updates. Sat in my bedroom in Corona, Queens and cried. My hero was traded. Dave Kingman was also traded, to San Diego that night (I think)for Paul Seibert & Bobby Valentine

Heck, imagine if these boards had existed in those days:

"Well he is 32 and on the downside of his career. I wouldn't really extend him"

"The team is going downhill anyway and when the Mets are ready to contend he won't be part of the team"

"You guys must be crazy to want to trade the Franchise!!!!" He should retire a Met!!!
