TC talked Egbert way up on his way out which seems ridiculous considering he just went unused for like 2 weeks while our pen blows EVERY lead we get. But the most ridiculous comment was that he said Egbert almost made the team in 2010.
I went back and checked- Egbert got into two games that spring throwing 4.1 mostly ineffective innings. What the hell is Terry talking about? Confusing Egbert with Kiko Calero maybe? Bobby Parnell?
If/when TC stops winning here, be interesting to see if he starts getting called more on his propensity to talk without thinking/a factual basis . His comments on the defense last night were laughable.

So, what would you all do to our 40-man roster if you're Sandy? First, I'll post the current 40-man (* = not active; I did not list Pelfrey who is the only guy on the 60 Day DL right now):
Pitchers: Santana Dickey Niese Gee Young Francisco Parnell Rauch Elvin Ramirez Batista Byrdak Hefner Ramon Ramirez * (15 Day DL) Beato * Carson * Familia * Mejia *
Outfielders: Duda Torres Bay Nieuwenhuis Rottino Scott Hariston Baxter * (15 Day DL) Lagares * Puello *
Obviously, a little health could go a long way to solving some of the roster crunch we're having. But it doesn't look like Baxter or Turner will be back any time soon. Tejada is still a question mark. So let's assume for the moment that only Cedeno comes back soon and Valdespin is optioned back to AAA. What else would you do?
Bullpen: If Rauch keeps struggling, I may force him to go to the DL and call Beato back up. I really think Elvin will figure it out, so Hefner's options will come in handy when Ramon Ramirez comes back off the DL. That's about all we can do with the bullpen unless Mejia is ready when/if Rauch goes on the DL. In that case, I'm still a bit concerned with the depth, having two rookies (for all intents and purposes, Mejia is a rookie) in the bullpen. But when guys aren't performing, you might as well try the young fellas on your 40-man if you can do that without having to DFA a guy.
Rotation: Just hope Young and Santana hold up. This is turning into a strength.
Infield: I think you have to option Ike after interleague play. Moving Duda to first will help the OF defense, as well. Now that you've DFAd Satin, however, I'm not sure on a corresponding move. If you absolutely need a 40-man roster spot, the only cut I think you can make is Lutz. I think Havens needs the rest of the year to prove himself and make up for his slow start. Then you could recall Satin or someone else who could pass through waivers again.
Outfield: What you see is what you get, here, until Baxter comes back. Den Dekker has to prove himself in AAA first, and he'd have to start in NY, not just be a backup.
When Mejia gets up here, Hefner is the likely casualty...leaving us with
Rotation: Santana Dickey Niese Gee Young (assuming he's still producing)
Batista (i can live with him in the long-man role) E. Ramirez (still think he turns this around) Byrdak Beato Mejia Parnell Francisco
Honestly, I'd entertain the idea of DFA'ing Rauch...although that's a tough pride pill to swallow. Even if Elvin needs to get sent down, I'd much rather see Edgin up here than Rauch again.
You gotta think Ramon is coming off the DL soon, too. Unless Elvin turns it around, I wonder if he gets sent down at that time.
I'd also love to see Edgin up here at some point. At least one other lefty. But I agree that Batista is actually pretty valuable at eating up innings. Not sure if Beato is ready for that.
I asked this question in another thread yesterday and it got buried.
Honestly, swapping out the existing pens in their entirely, would the Buffalo pen (Cabrera, Edgin, Hampson, Acosta, Beato, Mejia, Egbert) outpitch the Mets pen (Francisco, Byrdak, Parnell, Rauch, Elvin, Batista, Hefner)?
No combining, or cherrypicking. I think its a legit question.

That is a legit question, and franky frankly, I don't know for sure.
