Not that batting order is important, but I don't think Murphy, with his 6-for-49 slump (or something close to that) and crazy long homer-less drought, should continue to bat that high.

Also, Hairston vs a RHP. Oof. Buy we knew this one was coming after Hairston tricked TC by hitting Arroyo's softball-speed curveball for a homerun.

I think way too much emphasis is put on platoon splits by a lot of posters on this site. I think it's good to take them into account, but there are a lot of other factors that need to go into utilizing personnel.

There's also a self-fullfilling element to them, where if you almost never face a certain type of pitcher, you never get the chance to make adjustments.

I have no problem with Hairston playing over Torres the way the two of them have been hitting.

I prefer Hairston as opposed to Torres batting left-handed. Torres has been bad all year and Hairston has been one of our most consistent hitters (and thats a scary thought).

For all the talk about lineups I just gotta say there really shouldn't be any concern at this point about scoring runs.

We are 4th in the NL in runs scored (without a productive 1st baseman btw). We have actually scored more runs than every 1st place team in the NL.

Our issue is pitching, and not starting pitching because our rotation kicks ass, it all comes down to the bullpen.

The sooner they fix that, the sooner we can start to put some separation between us and move forward in the standings with consistency

Injury updates from Rubin:

Quote:
Ronny Cedeño is due to play shortstop for a second straight game with Triple-A Buffalo on Friday night, and Terry Collins is eyeing the middle of the week -- potentially Wednesday when the Mets face Baltimore left-hander Brian Matusz -- for Cedeño's activation from the disabled list.

Quote:
Ruben Tejada (quadriceps), meanwhile, is further away from a return. Collins said Tejada rain in a straight line Friday in Port St. Lucie, Fla. The hope is to have Tejada begin a rehab assignment Monday. Tejada's last attempt to play for Triple-A Buffalo was abandoned when he felt an issue with the quadriceps and pulled himself from a June 5 game.

Quote:
Mike Baxter, who suffered a displaced right collarbone on the no-hitter-saving catch on June 1, said the original six-week timetable for returning to the majors remains the most precise estimate.

Baxter has stayed in New York, where he is doing range-of-motion physical therapy as well as work in a pool and stationary bicycle.

If the six weeks hold, Baxter would return after the July 9-12 All-Star break.

If we're going to do the "Hairston vs. RHP because we have no better option" thing, we should really consider MDD up for Valdy.

On top of all the normal arguments on platoon splits, Hairston remains the only bench RH weapon that can make a manager think twice about going to his LHP late in games.

I'm not even sure why, but Rubin quoted a Met official saying there is pretty much no chance the Mets sign the recently released Manny Ramirez.

I say "I'm not even sure why" because the last thing the Mets need is another DH in the field (and the whole circus he brings with him). Even as a Manny supporter I didn't even think of it as a possible match.

OLLIE P IS BACK IN THE BIGS!!

Remember, he was back hitting 93, 94 per the pitchFX guns in the Cactus League this spring. He's walking a ton of guys but K'ing a ton too in the PCL and predictably dominating LHB.

LOOGy Ollie should have a real chance of working.
