Whoever they acquire in the off season the bottom line for me is that this franchise needs to spend and they need to spend more wisely than they have the previous two off seasons.
Tom, That's the "problem" with the Kirk/MDD/Duda OF.... where are you adding a big offensive player when you are "locked in" at 3b, 1b, SS and 3 OF spots? You aren't finding a "star" catcher and the 2b market is absolutely awful this year (and doesn't have a ton of "star" level producers as it is. Odds are if you want a big time offensive player added it will come at the expense of MDD or Kirk not being regulars on the team.
I think that's exactly what I just said.
The only problem is, there is no star player at an outfield position that the Mets will go after.
Im a big uptown guy but i don't see Mets going after him
the question is who will be better MDD or kirk. Kirk is already performing and i don't see them getting rid of DUDA who brings power
This off-season is one where the trade market for young controllable talent should be the only one pursued, and we should continue to develop our own talent. Marginal trades for veteran presences should be avoided.
BJ Upton seems the only reasonable pursuit since he gives you several dimensions, but I am not sure he is any more productive overall than Nieuwenhuis at this point, and will cost a whole lot more. At 27 he's not taking a short-run contract.
The pitchers are either A. out of the price range, B. Not any more exciting than what we have, or C. High risk/higher price
