with what hairston?
It's not that end of the world, but I think with Young out there against this lineup you might want to go with Torres instead. Righties do hit Nova a bit better than lefties, but that doesn't mean Hairston is going to hit him.

It must be the eternal optimist in me, but I long for the day when Scott Hairston can start a game against a RHP and not see a half-dozen posts in the IGT deriding the move.
He's been one of the team's better hitters and he's not taking playing time from someone who is sure to do better.
If he stops producing or someone else heats up, the topic should be revisited, but until then, I don't see the point.

He has a .638 OPS vs RHP this year. All of his damage has come against lefties. It's pretty objective.

Who else u want to play?
Rottino isn't starting against a righty. Torres and his .485 OPS against righties? nope. only the case can be made is to play Valdespin and his .718 OPS...that may have been the only other option...and he was hitting well the past few games he's been in there...
Hairston OPS'ed .900+ in May and is over .900 in June so far, let's see what he can do, he's been pretty hot, albeit against lefties...

It doesn't take place in a vacuum. You have to consider who would play when he doesn't. And you have to consider how much better he hits with regular reps. I expect his hitting vs RHP will improve with more reps. But just as important, playing every day is likely to help him improve his timing and make him even more effective vs LHP because he's playing regularly.
I'm not suggesting he's suddenly become an everyday player, but he's not taking PT away from someone who's a great player or even likely to do better than Hairston at this particular time.
