He'd cost very little, actually, but why? He's having a mediocre year, has a big salary (even for a rental), and doesn't fit the roster at all. The Mets basically have a slightly worse version of Lee too: his name is Jason Bay.
Since 2010: Carlos Lee, 104 OPS+ Jason Bay, 98 OPS+
ZiPS RoS projection for Lee: .760 OPS ZiPS RoS projection for Bay: .746 OPS
He is defending his tweets by stating he saw something on fan graphs suggesting we go after Grienke making this whole thing okay. People are free to join me on the cage match option.

Wheeler is dang near untouchable for me.
Certainly not for Grienke or Hamels. Giants can have him back for Matt Cain though

My untouchable list is longer than most (and probably longer than it should be), however, I can go 25 deep on my list for some of the guys being discusses out there.
Cole Hamels is intriguing, but he WILL leave for FA, he more than likely WILL NOT like NY, and WILL cost an arm (Harvey or Wheeler) and a leg (basically Wilmer), with probably a glove (Mejia) and shoe (den Dekker or something) thrown in for the extra pain.
If the Phillies would accept quantity over quality then it might make some sense, but they'll want it to hurt since it's the Mets.

Bottom line... I wouldn't trade Wheeler for any rental player in baseball and I wouldn't trade him for any player with 1 year left unless Fred were willing to pay whatever the price is to lock up said player.

Add to that the fact that said player can and will hold you over a barrel, given that you've just given up your top prospect in order to get him (a la Benson).

Yeah. Basically it would have to be a Santana situation where Fred was willing to give basically a blank check.
