To me Ruben Tejada has proven he is a key part to depth of this Met team. If It were me, keeping him is a no-brainer

Way to go Rich

Heh, that's why I said in the other thread I wonder what his take on this move will be. Will he backtrack and praise the remaining players/Sandy? Or caution us it may have been the wrong move with a "To me, letting Tejada go could be a mistake. Just my 2 cents". We anxiously await Rich's take!

For once, though, it's not just Rich with this simmering hot take to walk back. Lots of the best gave this same insane "Now you see how valuable Tejada is!" mantra a go last week. Yes, a guy they have been desperate to not play now may be pushed higher up the bench - key to success for the season!!

This line of thinking would work with, say, if the Mets were considering trading Plawecki and then TdA got hurt because the drop between Plaw and Nevin Ashley is pretty significant (probably). Or, given the state of OF depth at the upper levels, if Grandy went down tomorrow when they were considering dealing De Aza.

But pretending like Tejadas role as the second infield backup/6th PHing option (after the 4 other bench guys plus Thor, and is a toss up based on matchup with DeGrom) is one that can't possibly be filled if he were to leave is, well, weird. It's like the prevailing assumption is that if Tejada leaves we have to play with 24 guys all year.

Yeah I don't quite get that. Many of them were sticking to that today and questioning the move (at least on SNY). The way they were talking it was if he'd turn into prime David Wright if they needed him to step in and play regularly due to injury. The same people were hammering him as useless last year.

I can understand people having a little more trust in Tejada than Matt Reynolds (though this time last year people were talking up Reynolds quite a bit). But it's not like it's "problem solved! no worries!" if they have an injury to another infielder and Tejada was needed to step in regularly

My prediction: Mets go 6-3 on this trip come back over 500 and never fall below 500 again in 2016

Rich Coutinho ‏@coutinho9 Apr 30 New York, USA

Mets end April 15-7 going 13-2 after a 2-5 start showing depth of balance of this team throughout the month

What does this even mean? Depth of balance?

My book coming out at this time next year now has a title. Read about it here: facebook.com/rich.coutinho.1

(spoiler alert: the link just takes you to his facebook page, which tells you to continuously click on a link to "read about it here" which just refreshes his facebook page, which is a carbon copy of his twitter feed - which is strangely appropriate for what the link is supposed to be to.)

I can't wait to get this book because I have no idea how it is going to be structured. I imagine it just being like 500 pages of continuous Rich thoughts/stories of fan interactions (he's already twitter-sourced for comments to add to his book! Presumably he's been asking all those daily-encountered fans as well), interspersed with call backs to the '69 and '86 Met teams, and random momentary updates on his dad's health (best wishes to Mr. Coutinho).

I'm pretty sure if you get stuck in the vortex of endless links for long enough it'll take you back to 1969.

I can't wait for the book. I will be incredibly disappointed if there aren't at least some mentions of fans randomly thanking him in the coffee shop for his optimism about the Mets on twitter

With all the successes lately, there hasn't been a need for Rich's keen eye for trouble, but alas, SCOUTinho has returned:

Rich Coutinho @coutinho9
My thought on Harvey wondering if something is physically ailing him to me looks like at times he is pushing the ball not following thru

He should be pulling the ball, clearly.

IT HAS HAPPENED!!

Groundbreaking turn of events tonight.....RICH. CRITICIZES. A. MET. And a well established one at that

Quote:
Rich Coutinho ‏@coutinho9
forget about the media Harvey not talking is not fair to his teammates who were forced to speak for him totally unacceptable on every level

Rich Coutinho ‏@coutinho9
not talking post game is just making it harder on every level answering a few questions not too.much to ask

I thought for sure Rich would loft the criticism the way of his media brethren. I am stunned
