Lincecum and Arroyo would be "fun" adds.

Could Lincecum go the Eckersley route? 2nd career as a late inning reliever?

:-k :-k :D

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

I think if I was a pitcher hanging on the last thread of my career, the Mets are the last team I'd want to sign with.

A lot of guys who were mentioned would have been good ideas a couple of years ago when the young studs weren't yet ready.

? Most of the names I mentioned are pen options/AAA depth types. What's the downside?

Downside for them is spending time in the minors, which is more likely on a deep roster than not. If I'm Lincecum (for example), and I want to rebuild my career as a reliever, then I would probably rather the guarantee of being in the majors with the Reds than Las Vegas with the Mets.

There's a big difference in terms of living conditions, travel conditions, and atmosphere. It could be a tough adjustment for a guy that's been a star in MLB already.

Plus, if you're good, you'll probably get traded to a contender during the season.

Yea, I don't see how anyone looking to revive their career would pick the Mets. There is just no room at the inn. Now, a guy who may make this his last year might want to try and hook on with a contender.

Ike left on bad terms. Doubt that happens

I think there's some room if you're an OF/1st baseman type but beyond that, it's hard to get an opportunity. The roster has too many infielders with both Dilson & Reynolds in AAA and too many pitchers knocking on the door. Catchers is a bit better but tricky too. Add to that, Vegas is probobly a crappy place to play. The stadium is still brutal. crazy hot and dry, tough place to pitch and the fans are often drunk tourists and mostly not mets fans.

A guy like Ike would be a Duda injury away from a callup. Is that enough to interest him? maybe not, but the mets could do worse for a non roster invite.

and, I've always loved a good underdog story. Go Mets (2018).

Travis Snyder for Vegas sounds pretty good to me

People pining for Parnell must have a serious "distance makes the heart grow fonder" thing going on.

Does nobody remember the spirited "who's fault is it that Parnell keeps ruining everything" debates of August/September? Sandy for putting him on roster vs Terry for using him?

I'm going to blame NYFS over all if he comes back next year and blows leads all the same.
