Ten pitches of New and Improved Tyler Bashlor was enough to convince me he's a MLB impact reliever

Something seems to have flipped regarding Bashlor and his command. Late in the season in AA, even when he was missing, he was missing close.

Hopefully it's legit because, if it is, I think he's our most interesting bullpen prospect since Familia

Lock to be added to the 40 and to me was one even before his "hot" finish.

Not only an absolute LOCK to be protected (despite the opinion of some people on here) I'd suggest he's easily a top 15 prospect in the system at this point

Tyler Bashlor has suddenly become one of the best true relief prospects in baseball.

I think you're too high on Oswalt

I think 10-15 is the right range for Oswalt. He doesn't have the upside of the pitchers higher on the list but dominating AA has to count for something. He had a great game against that Trenton lineup that none of the other AA guys could hold their own against.

To me he's Flexen with fringe-ier secondaries, more ground ball potential on his FB, and better command. It's not a sexy package but it's a package that could be a solid innings-eater if all goes right.

Yeah, and welcome aboard. The analyst Metro referred to seems like a classic case of dismissing a player bc he doesn't look like a future all-star. You see that a lot with many "analysts." It's like they think they're getting paid to highlight a kid's flaws. Meanwhile, everyone's got some flaws.

Making no guarantees that Oswalt becomes a successful big league pitcher, but to me he looks no worse than a lot of arms on a ML back end SP trajectory. To me, he looks like a Bud Norris or Joe Blanton, both of whom have lasted a while w/o elite stuff or velocity. There are lots of spots for back end starters or middle inning RPers.

And same goes for Conlon. Looks very much like they see him in the pen and decided to make that switch before the end of this season. I agree that his delivery prob lends itself better for the pen in the long run and they just went for it now. Not sure how that switch was handled tho, but I'm ok with it.

I think 2018 really hinges on whether or not one of these kids steps up and has a big year in the pen next season... whether that ends up being Bashlor or one of the others they added or will add to the 40. I'm not too high on Ramos. In fact, I would be ok if they dealt him this winter.

Pretty bizarre they moved Conlon to the pen when they did given the absolute lack of upper level SP. Even if they felt the pen might be in his future what was the rush? Unless he's skipping LV (highly, highly unlikely) why not wait until next season? And to be SO sure he couldn't be a SP seems strange. Also pretty bizarre they didn't discuss this with the player at all.

Here is the exact Oswalt quote

"Honestly have no idea how he got outs this year
Like it's fine for AA"

-Called Paez and Woodmansee non-prospects and Thompson an "extra" player

-Stajduhar "awful"

-Winnaker "meh"

-Brodey "I like okay"

I don't have a BP subscription but Mr. Villines got some love in today's 10 pack. Funny to see a guy mid-upper 80's, pen only profile to be discussed this much.

Fine list. I know I left off the recent intl signees and also Kay. No good way to rank any of them really. Also, Cheech looks like he may still be eligible...

Same guy had Mauricio top 10 but mostly because the system is "that bad" right now more than any internal Mauricio insight.

Mauricio is going to be a beast. It's not silly (strange, bizarre... :D ) to include a big intl kid on an org list... top 10 might be ambitious, but he's prob easily top 30. Many here thought Gimenez was too young to be "rushed" onto a top prospect list too.

I would agree that Staj and Woodmansee are awful. The jury is out on the others as of now.

I wasn't giving my own commentary on the player. I was merely adding the guy I spoke to had him top 10 but his notes were aimed at how poor the system was and not really a boost of Mauricio. Doesn't mean he can't be good. That said, there was a time when there was a view Guerrero was "close" to Gimenez and Guerrero has been flat awful, Kenny Hernandez was supposed to be a big get, awful. Mauricio sounds impressive but we shall see.
