So, what's Woodmansee's upside? Matt Reynolds? :-)

I say that as someone who likes Reynolds more than most but . . . but that's about what I see. Tools are OK, probably has solid pop for a SS but too many Ks, low average type in the majors.

JMO- I think the ranking is based on the slight chance he develops 15 hr power and can stick as a steady defensive SS.

That's a pretty good player if he gets there.

But I don't really see the odds being great that he becomes that player and thus believe he's most likely a minor league depth guy that maybe sees the show for a cup of coffee...

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

So, maybe a 2015 Ian Desmond type, w/o the stolen bases and without the plus glove. I could see that. Talking upside, ofcourse, not making predictions.

Of the four major top 100 lists to be released (BA, BP, ESPN, MLB), I think the BP one is the best. And I'm not just saying that because I think it's the only one to properly grade Gsellman.

This seems to be a much better ranking of where Gsellman should be. He literally was a TOR starter in the big leagues last year. I don't care much that he wasn't a great prospect coming through the ranks if he has the stuff and the success in the bigs at this point.

Its sort of a silly comparison anyway given that once guys establish themselves in the bigs I think its odd that they can get retroactively ranked as a prospect, but if thats the rules, this is where he should be.

As a follow-up to their Top 100 prospects, Baseball America compiled a list of two players at each position, one in the upper level and one in the lower level of the minor leagues who they believe can breakout and become future major leaguers. In Bed Badler’s list, he named two Mets prospects:

1B Peter Alonso (Brooklyn Cyclones)

2016 Stats: 30 G, 123 PA, 109 AB, 20 R, 35 H, 12 2B, 3B, 5 HR, 21 RBI, CS, .321/.382/.587

Alonso was the Mets second round draft pick this past year in large part due to his promising power. He showed that and then some in his brief stint with Brooklyn this past season. What makes him even more intriguing is the possibility he has played some third in the past.

To learn more about Alonso, check of MMN‘s Matthew Brownstein’s interview with Alonso.

SS Andres Gimenez (DSL Mets)

2016 Stats: 62 G, 275 PA, 214 AB, 52 R, 75 H, 20 2B, 4 3B, 3 HR, 38 RBI, 13 SB, 8 CS, .350/.469/.523

I don't know whether to be impressed or simply amused that he suggests Alonso and 3rd. He did look pretty fluid in the video clips I saw and I could see him being a solid/average first baseman defensively, but 3rd base isn't exactly an easy place to play. You need quick reaction time and a legit arm. Big questions on that point. Yuge.

MMO did an interview with him very recently and he said his arm is one of his strongest attributes as a player.
