Mets signed 1B Cody Decker to a minor league contract.

Decker, 30, played for Israel in the World Baseball Classic and was also with the Brewers in spring training before being released. He hit just .230/.284/.484 in the minors last season and is merely a depth guy.

St. Lucie, in need of fresh arms, pulls up Darwin Ramos and Joel Huertas from Extended and deactivates Chase Ingram and Kevin Canelon.

Anthony Dimino bumped up from Cola to replace the disabled Pete Alonso. Jay Jabs bumped up from Extended to replace Dimino.

Jaff Decker assigned to Binghamton.

That's Jaff's brother (not really) Cody, I think.

I realize it's pretty close to "who cares" territory, but I'm curious if Dimino continues to hit for a high average in St. Lucie.

This is a "who cares"? Why do you say that?

I said "close to" a who cares, and it's cause some posters like to point out that he's a non prospect. Maybe I didn't need to say it, but I was just pointing out that "yes I know, he's not a top 50 guy", but . . . he hits for high average and I'm curious how he handles the promotion.

In a sense, there's 2 kinds of fringe prospects (and this is grossly oversimplified)

There's the - tools like crazy (Champ Stuart/Ivan Wilson) - Ivan lead the Appy in homers a couple years back. But those guys struggle to hit .200

And there's the guys who do hit, but don't do anything else (Dimino), and as long as he keeps hitting, he's worth keeping an eye on. If the bat continues as he rises through the ranks, he might become a Josh Thole/TJ Rivera type.

I don't get why, after little more than a year in the system, there is the rush to label a guy... to me any player who appears to have a 50 bat (or more) is worth following. And FTR, his name did come up toward the back of the 50 list or maybe as an HM, at least I brought him up iirc.

I mentioned him on poll thread 46 as well

"Names left on my "names to consider" list

Christian James ( very nice debut season)
Matt Cleveland (awful debut but "big" bonus, pre-draft hype of once being regarded as a day 1 selection)
Dariel Rivera (Solid debut)
Debora (old but throws hard, praise for stuff/build combo)
Jose Maria (basically Carlos Sanchez 2.0)
JM Medina (solid season, young, flashed plus power)
Wolf (older, moved to 1b, .807 OPS)
Huertas 9.9 k/9... 5.32 era
Guedez (young, highly athletic, Badler praise)
Viall (++ velocity, MONSTER size, awful command and now elbow surgery)
Darwin Ramos (like Guedez, plus athlete, young 9.7 k/9)
Angela (reportedly TOPS off mid 80's but lefty, 2.41 era)
Ivan Santana (old but throws very hard, lefty
Raul Beracierta (big kid, 17 years old, .799 OPS in his first professional season)
Christopher Pujols (Good size, 18 years old .897 OPS)
Briam Campusano (Older but 1.76 era in first pro season)
Michel Otanez (Young, big, throws very hard)
Walter Rasquin (another bat without a position. .294/.353/.374, career .302 hitter over 147 professional games)
Anthony Dimino (yet another… he can hit but he’s a 1b/poor fielding C, organization raves about his intangibles, future coach)
Michael Paez (awful debut but a high pick with solid pre-draft scouting reports)
Bryce Beeler (oft injured but intriguing arm)
Vinny Siena (awful in St. Lucie, very solid in Columbia)
Jose Garcia (hasn’t hit at all but strong CS%)
Dash Winningham (Has good pop, season was up and down)
Milton Ramos (close to giving up on him but still strong reports on the glove)
Canelon (soft tosser but pitched well)
Palsha (older, 24 throws very hard)
Montgomery (13.7 k/9, routinely in trouble off the field)
Joe Shaw (134 k’s in 135.1 innings, way too many hits 150, live arm, likely a reliever)
Kevin Taylor (position is the issue, but 56 walks vs. 55 k’s with a .789 OPS)
Baldonado (potential MLB loogy, throws very hard)
Griset (1.80 era over 32 appearances)
Tim Peterson (12.3 k/9 over 48 appearances)
Victor Cruzado (.727 OPS, .340 OBP)
Logan Taylor 10.4 K/9
Uceta (Eddy said some compare him to Robles)
Taijeron (big power, + arm)"
