Jayce Boyd is basically a R/R guy best suited for DH who has only ever hit for power in Vegas, at age 26.

The sudden interest in him has me wondering if we've forgotten all of the guys who have put up numbers in Vegas over the years?

Good for him as I thought he was being fast tracked to the unemployment line a few months back, and he's earned himself an org role...but lets hold our horses on a major league bench job.

I'm gonna throw a cool your jets back atcha on this. Yeah of course I don't know how Boyd will acclimate or even if he gets called up now. But I am doing some projecting here. And that's based on another guy who's batted ball profile has definitely changed. I'm assuming that this has been another conscious effort to change the trajectory of his swing bc the results definitely reflect that (GB rate went from 50% to 39%). If you want to call it another Vegas mirage, there could be some of that too. But he fits the mold of a post hype type (w/o much hype) who was always considered a high floor low ceiling guy who could hit but didn't have the power for 1B or an OF corner. In a backup role, the pressure is less to hit for power and more just to hit. Not to mention that I like the swing and think it translates.

Sometimes things click for these types and we should give him a look to find out before tossing him aside and he becomes someone's Ben Gamel or Scott Schebler or Mike Mahtook.

and btw, Boyd is another guy who clearly should have been sent to the AFL.

I am not sure what the obsession is with Boyd. He is 26 and finally had a good couple of months.

First time I bring up Boyd all season and after he has a scorching second half, and it's an obsession? I give him kudos for flying under the radar this long. He's OPSing about 1.000 in over 50 games now. That's near the top of the PCL.

Not saying anywhere that I have illusions of him being any sort of breakout. I pretty clearly suggested he could be a candidate to fill a backup role.

I think bringing up guys like Boyd & Champ is fun. I don't know if I believe it, but it would be cool if the mets did that. (Just as it's cool that they brought up Taijeron). There's a small risk that they lose a guy by 40 manning them and then dropping them from the 40. A team could like Champ and take a risk on him. But I think the risk is small.

Fun fact. Travis Taijeron is 1 for 12 with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk.

But he is one for his last two with a double and a walk!

wait, wut?? McGowan is the sole September call up (after Rhame and Callahan)? Wow, not even Gsell. I can't believe this is it. Very weak.

The Mets' third September call-up is reliever Kevin McGowan, who joins the team for the third time this season. Expect more in days to come.

Seems like they are punishing Gsellman with this delay - less money and service time.

I wonder if they'll call up Nido after Binghamton's playoff run.
