I guess the big question is whether or not the Mets can avoid making a forever decision today. A 40-man spot needs to be opened for Familia. Will we see a DFA or can the Mets safely project that Wright, Matz, Lugo or Nimmo can be transferred to the 60-day DL? I believe that would guarantee an absence of 38 more days.

Is there any practical way that Wright is back playing ML baseball games before June 1? I mean, he hasn't even begun baseball activities yet, has he? Is this not a no-brainer? None of which is to say that the org will miss Monty if it came to that. Wouldn't he or Reynolds be the first off the island?

Technically he had been doing some "baseball activities" for awhile. Just not throwing. And then was shut down for a bit with the flu. Sounds like it's still going to be a slow process though

Ugh. How many times are they going to try this? Then again, I think I'd rather see him at 3B than Reyes right now.

Reynolds is hitting .342 since game 3. He started out 0 for 8, but he's been solid at the plate since then.

:)

He has a 91 wRC+ this year in Vegas. He had an 89 last year. And a 90 the year before.

I kinda think we have an idea of who he is.

But hey, maybe that .342/.405/.421 slash in his last 10 is the new normal for him.

(I'd also be remiss if I didn't mention the impressive 30% K rate coupled with the .065 iso)

Maybe instead of calling him up the Mets will drop Reynolds from the 40. And they just took him out to avoid him getting injured and being undroppable

I'm pretty sure you can drop an injured player (e.g., Yanks and Nate Eovaldi).

Like 95% sure we're getting Reynolds and Familia up, Gilmartin and Montero down (back to 5 man bench), Duda and Tda "day to day", Wright to 60 day DL.

If they were going to DL either Tda or Duda, Rivera would've been in play (unless again Matt Reynolds has surpassed Rivera in the FO's eyes).

Flores and R Rivera likely play everyday for a few days.

That would be a weird choice with the offense scuffling for runs.

No idea what they think Reynolds is going to provide other than a placeholder for a few days until TJR can come back. I guess that's the choice rather than leave the 8th arm another few days bc Duda &/or TDA may be unavailable for a day or two. If TDA is really out a day or two, why wouldn't the call be for Plaw tho?

Talking about a group that gave us Eric Campbell, Matt Reynolds, Ty Kelly and James Loney last year when the team was scuffling for runs at the corner infield positions.

Who is the backup C if TDA needs a few days? Doesn't the call-up position player have to be Plaw?

Can you? I thought I remembered something about the Mets having to bring a player back after dropping him after it ended up he was hurt. But maybe that was just a minor league demotion (Hefner?).

If a guy gets hurt in the majors, you have to major league DL them (which accrues major league service time, and they get paid major league salary) - you can't send them out and save the service time or pay.

This happened with Puello (major league camp) and Montero (when he insisted he had a shoulder injury after he was demoted, yet the Mets found nothing wrong).

But if they wanted to just release either guy, they'd be owed their guaranteed salary, so thats fine (I think?). And plus, Reynolds wasn't in the majors.

I'm sure there are other recent examples of this, but the Yanks dumped Eovaldi this offseason rather than retaining their control for this year on him while he rehabbed. The Rays I believe picked him up.
