Infielders after pitchers?

Quote:
Noah Syndergaard played catch on Wednesday, putting him on track to throw a bullpen session in the next few days. It’s a needed step for Syndergaard to remain on pace to pitch in a game before the season ends.

“If he comes out of this fine, he’s going to throw a ’pen,” manager Terry Collins said.

Soreness prevented Syndergaard from throwing in a simulated game on Sunday, a setback in his attempt to pitch in a big league game for the first time since tearing his lat muscle in April.

There are about 17 games left - why does Noah need to pitch in one? Guy let down the team with his macho man training mentality. He doesn't deserve to get a pity start.

It's not a pity start as much as it is mentally reassuring to both player and team if he comes back to pitch a game or two rather than go ten months between starts.

Will it be reassuring if he goes out there and gets shelled and knocked out in the 3rd inning?

Chances are he will be rusty and somewhat ineffective. Still, being able to throw without pain alleviates a lot of concerns going into the offseason program

No kidding.

The Mets are forcing these surgeons to give up some of their vacation time.

Yeah who cares about the result in a meaningless game? His only goal this year is to get through a game, and have no pain or discomfort afterward.

Amed Rosario was treated for gastroenteritis last night at the University of Miami hospital. He is resting today at the Mets' team hotel.

Well, he does have front row seats to every Mets game.
