Braves are signing some "big" Korean SS prospect at the behest of ex-Met scouting director Chad MacDonald (who works for them now).
Is MacDonald the guy that had the iffy record in drafts (not just with Mets)?
His one draft with the Mets was incredible 2010
Harvey, DeGrom, MDD, Edgin, Goeddell, Akeel Morris. He was assistant GM in SD so he didn't run their draft and he was international scouting director in Arizona. You sure you aren't thinking of DePo's SD draft track record? Pretty sure McDonald's only year as scouting director anywhere was with the Mets. He was booted in SD when they switched GM's.
Ok. Was going off a vague memory of someone from the San Diego days.

Fun fact about AJ Preller since his name came up - when I was in 4th grade he was in 6th, and he ran for and won the title of president of our elementary school.

The kid the Braves signed apparently is said to be potentially the best Korean prospect ever (not that that's saying much)
I think that distinction had belonged to Shin Soo Choo.
Gonna go ahead and assume this is the SS for Korea in the under-18 world cup that I've been watching on YouTube the past few days. Only got three innings into the championship game before work, but Bae was taller than just about everyone else on the team, good lookin bat speed, the usual opposite field approach, and plus speed. He had already had a few mental lapses in the field, but seems like the tools are there. The announcers weren't pumping him up like I would have thought, focusing mainly on the team's DH as the potential first pick on the Korea draft. Also most articles have mentioned him "likely first rounder," so while Def interesting, the best Korean ever sounds a little thick. Even if we are goin with Choo in the top spot.

MacDonald was 2011, no?
Yep.
Yeah so the only draft he has ever been responsible for with any organization ended up with Fulmer, Nimmo, Gsellman, Gant, Muno, Mazzoni, Verrett, Pill, Taijeron, Evans, Lugo, Bradford all seeing the bigs. dang impressive for a guy running his only draft, hardly some track record of poor drafts in other places. I'd be happy to bring him back.

Is MacDonald coming back?? I hadn't heard that.
No. He's a special assistant with the Braves. I wish he would come back. Move Sandy upstairs, Ricco the GM (not that I want him, just think it's inevitable) and let MacDonald run the scouting.
