YOU think Nimmo could be an MLB regular in a corner and could grow into power, routinely talking him up and Fulmer is a legit top SP in baseball but 2011 doesn't represent a strong draft. Makes sense to me.

What is unclear here?

I said above that the 2011 draft may have been this era's best yield, but that may not be saying a lot. 2015 could end up a nice draft if players get healthy but it's a long way from paying off.

Pretty much. I mean just the sheer tabulation of "# of guys who made it" I guess is good, but so many of those are in the Mazzoni/Muno/Bradford category of "Does it really matter?"

I think all this is really showing is that the pressure to perform as a guy in charge of a draft is a really low bar. I get that its tough, and I get that nobody gets it all right - but a 40 man draft that ostensibly will product Fulmer, Nimmo and Lugo as long term MLB assets - thats probably 1 impact player, 1 backup OFer and one swing guy who's useful as long as he's cheap ala Torres - and thats doing well. Hmph.

So you are prepared to fully write off Gsellman and Lugo? John Gant was #1 good enough to use as a trade chip #2 had a solid AAA season. He'd be a top 15 prospect in our current awful system.

The 2011 draft was strong; not really sure why that's even an argument.

Like look at the 2014 draft. Conforto might be the only guy there who might ever get even a cup of coffee in the majors (maybe Matt Blackham? Prevost?).

Hitting on your first round picks and getting a bunch of borderline guys is a successful draft.

My fault for millering this thread. Moving it back to the correct topic, Terrazas who was name checked by Longenghan today actually made the APP league end of the season all-stars at 3b. If Vientos isn't skipping BK then you would hope Terrazas would be.

I would think Moreno, Uriarte, start in BK...? Vazquez, LaGrange, Villines, Terrazas, Vientos in COLA?

Calling this a win is why obsessing over the MLB draft is silly. 40 shots and looks like 1 impact talent and a bunch of guys who made MLB cameos in times of need but showed why they aren't MLB talents.

You can also give at least partial credit on the impact pick (Fulmer) to Sandy.

IIRC, they where going to let Pedro Feliciano walk without offering arbitration, and it was one of Sandy's first decisions to offer it and net the comp pick.

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

2 "top" IFA's remain unsigned. Salinas (consensus top 10) and Cabello.

Mike Radcliff, Twins vice president for player personnel says "most" of the class of 2018 already has commitments to teams. The system is pretty dumb.

Nuts- “Teams are agreeing with players for 2020 now, that’s how far out it is,” Radcliff said. “Almost all of the best guys for next [July] are locked up already and off the market. And since everybody wants a [top player], to assure you get one, you have to move on to the next year, and the next one.”

Lets not send scouts to see a guy like this

"I've been doing this 26 years, seen as many players as anybody, but I've never seen a skill set like this," the first director said, noting that the only real negative has been some nagging injuries that have made it a bit more difficult to see him. "This guy is polished like McKay with Greene's tools, but he's faster than Greene. There should be giddiness; no one has ever seen it. We'll see how it turns out."
