this thread should be called #colonoscopy.

serious note, i'd take him over montero and ramirez. Maybe he makes things more interesting to watch. i'd like to watch him continue to swing the bat once every 5 days.

I don't want anyone on the team on August 2 who has zero chance of being here on April 1.

We have 25 spots. Montero is one blowup away from being gone (We all know his status as a once top 100 guy), Ramirez should have been gone already. Walker, duda, granderson, bruce and reed are all worth something on the trade market. Theres a solid chance other teams will pay more for them then us in free agency and i don't blame the mets for not matching for most of them.

Losing Granderson, Bruce, Walker, Duda, Cabrera, Reed and Salas cuts around 56 million off our cap. I'd much rather this team trade all of them for solid bullpen arms and high average hitters, bring in Colon and call this season a wash. First we lost Matz then Syndergaard. DeGrom and Harvey also underpreformed at the beggining of the season (one longer then the other).

This isn't very "Metsy" but if all works out. 4/5 of our pitchers look good next year. we have 56 mil left before arbitration. Thats a lot of room to play around with if you assume Rosario and Smith can hold their respective positions. I'm not saying play like all stars, i'm saying play replacement level for thier rookie season. Those trades could partially fill the bullpen, throw some contact hitters in the fold via trade.

Fill the OF with a free agent signing (JD Martinez) if conforto could hold down centerfield when he returns. Drop Wilmer in at 2nd or 3rd if you can't find anyone better via those trades.

In the long run, all i'm saying is selling right now shouldn't kill this team's future. If it does, our starting pitching isn't nearly as good as we all hoped it would be at this point in time after watching bits and pieces of it over the past few years. I don't think this team has anything to lose by signing Bartolo Colon as a body, a big one at that.

I'm not. He was great last year and if you're already trotting out terrible players to take the mound once or twice a week, why not try a terrible player who was recently good? This doesn't mean I think that the Mets should sign him, but I get it why a contending team would roll the dice.

Apparently Minnesota won the Colon sweepstakes. Odd choice for both, can't see it ending well with Colon going to the AL.

He would have signed here if Mets were playoff contender. But if the Mets were a playoff contender, they probably wouldn't have needed him. lol

We can pick him up in 3 weeks after the Twins release him.

That will save us even more money.

Whew. Dodged that bullet...

I'm with Northway, Nitey, Et.al...

Trade everyone who will not be here next year. Have a plan to get value while there is value to be gotten. New bodies where they are needed.

The only FAs to be that Id hold onto are Walker and Grandy.

Bartolo is the most Twins pitcher ever. This makes all the sense in the world.

Well, if you're referring to the fact that they play in a pitcher's park and they play defense, I agree. The Twins defense is something like +20 DRS, while the Mets are about -20, and as we know Bart mostly pitches to contact.

I was referring to the fact that they love guys who pitch to contact.

There was some mocking in this thread but Colon may yet pitch in the playoffs.

Good I hope he beats the Yankees in the Wild Card game :P

I do admit I'm surprised he's been as decent as he's been after how god-awful he was with the Braves, I thought going to the AL would cancel out getting away from new-age Turner Field but maybe that park really affected him even more than I thought.

And it is funny that people including the Mets thought we wouldn't have any room for him meanwhile Chris Flexen is on what, his 6th or 7th start?

We wouldn't have if health had been better for the staff. Then Bart would have been superfluous and wouldn't have taken kindly to the pen.
