It's easier to root for losses as long as the Mets insist on playing the vets. It'll be harder when and if we ever start playing Dom/Rosario/Wilmer consistently in September.

Agree.

Exhibit A last night and Rosario's GWHR

Best case scenario is 4th. Most likely scenario is 6th due to our schedule. Worst case is 10th.

Watching is optional. Besides, there were some bits of tonight worth watching. Rosario homer & Triple. Dom ground rule double. Matt Reynolds in RF.

On the tank, I'm impressed. They've lost 8 of 9. They've sold just about everybody and this is a bad team now. No question.

The bottom 3 teams are pretty much out of reach Philly, Chisox & SF.

#4 Cincy 53-73
#5 Mets are in a 3 way tie with Detroit & Oakland, 2 games ahead of Cincy.
8-9 are 1.5 and 2 games ahead of us, San Diego & Atlanta.

4-9 range isn't bad.

This is not something I can ever stand doing. Purposely not winning.

It's wrong to purposely not win, but in a down season it's perfectly OK to sell the expiring contacts and play the kids. Pitching was supposed to be the Mets strength this year and we have a rotation that includes Montero, Milone & Flexen, so . . . Nothing purposly about it. They're losing cause they're not a good team right now.

But as a fan, I'm happy to root for a better draft pick. Call me a bad fan if you like, but I root for draft picks during bad seasons. I do.

No, I can't root for draft picks. Why should I waste my time giving up on decent baseball for some promise in the remote future.

If I was a vet (young or older) on the team I'd be pussed and want out. Must suck big time to be deGrom.

That's baseball though. It's all sports. It probably sucked to be Archie Manning, who some people think was a hell of a QB but he didn't have one wining season. Not one, and he was sacked the most often 3 seasons.

Vets gotta deal. As fans, we can always turn off the Tube, but deGrom's gotta play. It's his job. Now if they want to shut him down mid-Sept, that's fine. But until he's shut down for the year he's gotta play through it. Same can be said for a whole lot of athletes.

I just want to add, there's not all that much difference winning 77 games and coming in 3rd compared to wining 67 and coming in 5th. The games are equally meaningless as far as playoffs are concerned.

Players can want out but they have no control where they get traded unless they have NTC's. The Mets can just trade them to another bad team or tell them to go fly a kite.

I don't get what you want from the team Tom, they only traded their expiring contracts. It would have been flat irresponsible not to do so. None of these trades preclude them from competing in 2018 - at least no more than just letting them walk without any compensation at all - assuming we aren't headed for an intentional, dramatic payroll slash and Ramos ostensibly helps in the 2018 attempted reboot.

The whole refuse to rebuild, trade FA's to be or plan for the future mindset is why my Devils are going on five years out of the playoffs and counting with no end in sight. I'm not all for total rebuilding at the first sign of trouble either but at some point you have to make moves to plan for the future. You can continually knock the whole concept of trading established players for prospects as lottery tickets but we don't ever have the 2015 or 2016 Mets without trading Dickey for Thor and company.

Granted half these trades seem rather pointless in terms of value back other than the money saved for the Wilpons but I guess you would have opposed the Yankee trades last year too on the same principle of not wanting to cash out vets (and in Miller's case one signed for multiple years) for 'lottery tickets'?

It'll be exciting (when we finally get there) to have a top 5 pick in the draft, or near to it. We'll pick someone who will likely instantly become our best prospect. I may be in the minority, but I find that worth looking forward to.

or Philip Humber like last time. At least they turned that into Johan Santana which was nice while that lasted.
