Also, the Mets evidently were not happy that the Yankees, with their $200 M-plus payroll, wouldn't absorb all of Bruce's salary.

 Pretty nervy of the Mets to get indignant over another team that has a payroll 150% of their own not wanting to pay an extra few million due to the luxury tax.

Another Mets offficial: "When we were looking for players last year, the Yankees weren't exactly rushing to return our calls."

Another lol quote. Who were the Mets looking for in 2016, Brian McCann? Good luck getting the Yankees to retain that salary. They weren't going to give up Amed or Dom for Chapman/Miller. Beltran? Ehhh that could have been interesting but he was a straight rental unlike Bruce.

As some have speculated, there were hard feelings from last year (McCann most likely).

I'm fine with the Yankee stuff. Not dealing with them doesn't bother me. The mets want the Yankees to miss the playoffs cause they compete for the same fan base. No big.

I am a little disappointed in the return. Nothing against Ryder Ryan. He's a perfectly fine guy to have in the organization, but I don't see the value. I'm not even sure he breaks our top 50. (I think the other 4 relief pitchers they traded for probably top 30). But Bruce was worth more than that. That's how the cookie bounces sometimes.

I've always loved a good underdog story. Go Mets (2018). I know an underdog when I see one.

Mets and Yankees don't deal much in the 21th Century.

The Mets have had 4 GMs.

The Yankees have had 1.

You might want to point the finger in the right direction.

That near deal Sandy hinted about with Yankees? Per multiple sources, it was for Neil Walker. Told Yanks backed off right at the deadline.

The times have changed so quickly it's astonishing, and for us, sad.

However, a year ago Francesa was saying not to expect the Yankees to help the Mets in any deal that could help a playoff push.

I blame the Mets for prioritizing saving money over better prospects.

But I do believe the Mets remembered the recent past and wanted a much better deal than from others to ship anyone to the Bronx.

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

Btw, hope for jdawg's sake that Andujar wasn't one of the players in the Yankee offer...

I know you're kidding, but Andujar is on the 40-man roster so he'd have to go unclaimed on waivers to be traded.

Yankees didn't obtain Alonso who was an obvious fit...

Maybe it's the Yankees who want premium chips for their rentals, but are cheaping out on others?

The rhetorical gymnastics to use Sandy as a foil by some here and on Twitter is priceless. I mean there is some next level denial go on with regard to what this deadline was really about.

If it's really what you're suggesting then why are Blevins, Grandy, Cabrera and Walker all still here?

Blevins is obvious. They want him for next year.

As for the others, the answer is staring you in the face. They haven't found anyone willing to take on all the money yet. In the three deals they made, as soon as one team offered to take the entire salary of the player, they consummated thw deal. As the days wind down this month, they may have to eat a portion of their salaries to save money.

I have one simple question too, what incentive from a baseball operations standpoint is there for the front office to accept a lesser prospect package in exchange for money off the books this year?

The answer to that question may simply be that what the club saves today can be invested in players tomorrow. We will find out if that is true this winter.....

Except that that has not been the habit of this ownership. Along with the "we can just resign them this winter" thing. And yes as always "we will see", but history indicates we won't like what we see
