An idea was posted on the Brewers board that seems feasible. They agreed to a player who's rule 5 eligible but won't be protected. The trade, therefore, won't be completed until after the rule 5 draft. Mets will get a player off the roster who might be a borderline rule-5 selection.

I've always loved a good underdog story. Go Mets (2018). I know an underdog when I see one.

Mets sure collecting a lot of not-being-protected Rule V guys in these deals. That would be at least 3, right?

And what if the player is selected...then they move onto another un-rostered player so that the risk is on the Brewers to not lost the player? Seems odd to me since wouldn't the Mets then need to send the player through waivers?

I forget where I saw it but one of the baseball writers suggested the two pieces the Yanks offered were borderline Rule 5 guys too.

I know people liked Neil Walker. But from a real talk perspective:

The Mets paid Neil Walker ~15m ish to be like the epitome of an average-to-slightly above "guy" this year and we maybe get a guy back we're not sure we want to put on our 40 man roster.

This is the human embodiment of "MEH."

2.

Drew Smith (Duda trade) doesn't need protection. Drafted 2015. He won't see majors till next year.

Jamie Callahan (Reed trade) needs to be protected and there's a good chance we see him this Sept. He's close.

Nogosek (Reed trade) doesn't need to be protected. Drafted 2016. He's got time.

Gerson Batista (Reed trade) needs to be protected but he's iffy. I think him throwing 99, they should protect him. Other people say he's too wild and too far away that he doesn't need it. - time will tell.

Ryder Ryan, the guy we got for Bruce is irrelevant. He was drafted in 2016 and he's no-where close to majors.

I'm not sure if he's said this recently or not (haven't listened in a while) but this morning on B&C Carton claimed it was Jeff Wilpon who has nixed ANY deal with the Yanks and Nats. He also claimed he knows one of the Yankee names in the deal (unclear which potential trade) and that player would be starting today for the Mets.

Not taking the bait. It would make me sick to my stomach.

Is there a player in the Yankee Organization who wouldn't be starting for the Mets?

I call bs on the latter unless by starter he means bullpen pitcher or temp fill-in like the Cessa spec. The Yankees have expendable minor league bullpen pitchers they probably would be willing to trade. Which granted is better than anonymous RR, but let's not act like they were giving us Andujar.

Right... Anyone of any value or interest would not have cleared August waivers so this is assuredly untrue.
