As is usually the case when I check the scores for the first time, the GCL Mets have already lost.

Briam Campusano pitched well: 5 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K

Kingsport - James (struggled a bunch lately after a great start)
Brooklyn - no pitcher listed. Brooklyn is 15-36. LOL
Columbia - tbd
St. Lucie - Canelon (game is underway 0-0 thru 2 1/2)
Bing - Oswalt, who's been solid lately. Wonder if he's a roster guy this November.
Vegas - Atkins (7.13 era)

Nice. It's a bold move giving him the start again today.

While Brooklyn's been awful, Jeremy Vasquez continues to hit.

.364 .444 .545 .990 with 4 doubles in 7 games. Among the starters, Walter Rasquin leads the team with a .719 OPS. Maybe I'm jumping the gun but Vasquez looks like a 3rd/4th round talent who fell to the 28th round. Has anyone seen him play? Does he look legit?

He had a poor sophomore season and struggled in the cap cod league, but otherwise, everything looked good. Good as a freshman, good as a jr, good in HS.

Anyone know anything about Jaison Vilera?

https://www.baseball-reference.com/regi ... um=linker-

He's got the best stats among our GCL pitchers this year. Mets360 mentioned him, but no details.

Yes. I posted a BP link last week that suggested he might be top 20 in the system. Doesn't have the velo of Acosta though.

Sweet. Top 20 isn't bad.

Not much to go on, but I came across this

http://www.baseballprospectus.com/chat/ ... hatId=1427

Quote:
andwoo (DC): Any Mets prospects beyond the recently drafted or recent large $ J2 signings to pay attention to in the SS leagues? Thanks!

Jeffrey Paternostro: Brooklyn is pretty barren this year. Kingsport has Christian James, Juan Uriarte, and Edgardo Fermin (theoretically Cameron Planck as well). GCL has Daison Acosta, Jaison Vilera, Gregory Guerrero and Mark Vientos.

I had to look up Fermin, whose full name is Edgardo Alfonso (Perez) Fermin. Not sure what the parentheses mean.

It seems Jeff P. likes Guerrero more than Metro. He still considers him worth watching.

I never said Guerrero wasn't worth watching. Not even close to what I said.

"Hernandez/Guerrero have both been terrible. At least the Mets were aggressive in the IFA market this year. With them you almost fear given the bonus baby struggles of those 2 that they suddenly slam the wallet shut."

Guerrero HAS been terrible. That's a fact. .217/.257/.252, 4 extra base hits, 1 steal. In August, .156/.191/.156. There is no debating what I said. He's been terrible at no point did I say anything about his future. Good luck coming up with an argument that counters "he's been terrible".

There is ONE player in the GCL with a lower OPS than Gregory Guerrero. 1.

PS the chat you posted is also from July 6th or 2 weeks into the GCL season. You don't think Jeff P's comments might be different now on 8/13 given the season he's had? Really an unfair depiction of what I said and this "difference" of opinion.

The reports are better than the performance but the reports also aren't particularly great.
