2010? James Loney posted a .723 OPS in 2010, 98 OPS+, he was a below average MLB hitter in 2010. For context .723 OPS he would rank 9th on the 2017 Mets. How is that a good season? Cabrera has a .731 OPS. TDA/Reyes are the only Mets regulars with a lower OPS than what Loney posted in 2010. Are we ignoring OPS too for some reason?

Metro - Loney was a .280 hitter/.340 OBP, who averaged 34 doubles, 3 triples, 12 homers, 89 rbi, and 8 stolen bases from 2008-2010. Again, that's not bad when you have other spots in the lineup that can produce more power. The OPS is lower than one would like, but he was still producing runs from a run-producing position. I know that you and others on this site don't put stock in RBI as I still do, but we've beaten that argument to death. :)

I'm rooting for Dom Smith to be a BEAST. I just think if he's James Loney 2.0 you will soon realize James Loney is/was not a good player.

I've always been confused that people are so confused about this.

This misguided thread is obsolete.

Now that we've got Willie Stargell at 1B, time to work on 3B and CF. Threads please.

I'll take it! Really though it was a lazy fly ball to left. But I'll take it!

I remember a few years back when Wilmer came up and all he did was stick his bat out against outside pitches. My son and I were watching a game they were playing in Atlanta and I said the same thing. Love to see him hit one ball hard. Then he absolutely smoked a line drive homer to left. I said, "kind of like that"

: ) Ok, but not from me. This thread, beyond being objectively crazy (writing off a guy's career after 4 games) has propelled me into an existential crisis wherein I found myself last night both rooting for and against for Dom simultaneously last night. What hath I wrought? I'm a monster.

Despite the early hohum results, I'm generally less worried about Domo's ability to hit on this level than Rosario's. Domo at least shows a decent eye for the zone. While he's not getting much power behind most of his swings, he is making contact. Rosario definitely has the quicker bat but his zone is all over the place right now.

Was this before he took Chapman deep or after?

I'm glad he showed he can hit a weak, hanging slider. Thats kind of bare minimum of what you'd expect from major leaguers, no?
