Gonna be fun when Grandy is dealt and Snider comes up and gets semi regular ABs over Nimmo.

Wow. Great. More org filler. How about Sandy and Co. show some imagination and vision for once and actually take a chance on someone with some upside........ like Arismendy Alcantara who was just DFA'd three days ago and is still only 25 years old.

Yeah, have no idea why we're not itching to get that 6 wRC+ in this lineup.

Well, if that really happens, then Collins should get run out of town. However, not giving Nimmo the opportunity seems difficult to envision at this juncture.

And I have no idea why you are okay with adding org filler over someone who once was a huge prospect and still has upside. I get it though, you would rather add guys who haven't sniffed the majors in two or three years. That's cool.

Edit: MJ>U - How do you not have a problem with this? This organization is OBSESSED with filler types. It seems like Sandy and Co. would rather sign the likes of guys who haven't been in the majors in years (see Bard, Snider, Albaladejo, and Wagner to name a few) or signing older players for levels that they don't belong at (see Kevin Taylor, Cody Decker, and Josh Rodriguez) than take a chance on guys who are still young and have upside (like Alcantara). My problem is with the vision/showing of imagination, especially when this system is bereft of position prospects.

Travis Snider was way more of a prospect than Alcantara ever has been, or will be, if we're going off of way outdated prospect rankings.

Travis Snider actually looks like a fairly likely outcome for Brandon Nimmo in 5 years, doesn't he?

I just edited my post. Take a look. And fwiw, Alcantara was a Top 100 guy at one point too, although Snider was the better prospect. Snider is 29, Alcantara is 25 and has played two positions where we have a need (2b and CF). He also is faster and more athletic than Snider, which is something this lineup is screaming for (even with the addition of Rosario).

Seriously though: 1st round prep pick, really too much of a tweener profile when developed to ever be a regular, still has shown flashes of value, 93 wRC+, good defense in LF, average in RF.

I'm really not concerned about the athleticism of a guy with a 1% BB rate and 35% K rate.

Printing his jersey would be too expensive.

I don't mean to be a nudge, but what about Alcantara's season has said that he's a guy to carry on the 25? (Cause he's out of options, so if you pick him up, he's on your major league roster). Certainly not his 35% K rate or his 2% walk rate, or his .171 average. He's a guy you try to sign to a minor league deal in January, he's not a guy you pick up off waivers and carry for the rest of the year and into next year cause you like his tools. Useful glove, but not a guy you can carry. There's a reason why nobody picked him up.

These moves (Wagner/Snyder) are just 2018 depth cause the mets have no major league depth to speak of right now.

I've always loved a good underdog story. Go Mets (2018). I know an underdog when I see one.

Yes, if things don't work out for Nimmo. Not sure about "fairly likely" however.

At 24, I don't really get the view that Nimmo is destined to be/remain a singles hitter. I realize he's going to need to ramp up his aggressiveness a bit at the plate, but one would have to project that he'll run into 15 HRs by accident in 500 PAs given that he's a physical specimen. I don't think it's a big stretch for him to get to 280/350/450 with 15 HRs and 30doubles in 500 PAs. But he'll never get there if he doesn't get the opportunity. Whether some will find that enough for an OF corner is another story but I'll be surprised if he doesn't produce like that eventually.
