What sort of correlation is there to elite spin rates and elite success?

We know that Seth Lugo's spin rate is elite of the elite. We also know that Seth Lugo is thoroughly mediocre despite this.

You also have to look at it relative from the perspective of what would player X look like with spin Y vs. spin Z. There are a ton of factors in play but this could be one factor in allowing a FB to play up. I don't have the data to back it up. I think it was a factor to why Szapucki was so effective before he blew out.

Hanging curveballs, no matter how much they spin, become hard hit balls. Curveballs thrown in the dirt, no matter how much spin, become balls. It's not the spin; it's the pitcher's ability to locate the pitch. Lugo has never been totally able to harness what is a really good curve.

Yes, spin is just one factor. Command is another.

Yeah, of course. Just not sure I'm ready to think of spin rate as a significant carrying "tool".

Harvey's final line.

3 innings, 1 hit, 0 walks, 3Ks.

The box score doesn't differentiate which Harvey had the wild pitch or the balk.

2 more hits for Jeff McNeil, one of them a double. (game in progress). His brilliant August continues.

Urena 3 for 3 with a homer in the game so far. Lucie down 5-4.

I think McNeil is the real sleeper to reach Queens next year. I continue to ask why he's not in the EL now tho.

Familia issues a leadoff walk, then a K on 3 pitches (2 swinging strikes) and then a double play on the next pitch.

1 IP, 1 BB, 1 K, 9 pitches, 5 strikes

Conlon used in relief for the second time in three days. This seems like more than a way to curb innings.

It was a blowout, but Conlon, Smith and Bashlor: 3 IP, 0 H, 1 BB, 3 K

Meanwhile Mazeika went 3 for 6 with 3 doubles and 3 RBIs. He just lined out in the 9th against Zack Cox, the former 10th overall pick.
