Why is Sandy a HOF executive?

His personal biography is impressive as hell but his actual baseball successes have been fleeting. Unless he goes in for his accomplishments in the commisioners office (if that's what you're saying).

Overall accomplishments including the stuff for Selig and winning pennants in two different leagues and generations.

Orioles are a prefect example. They literally sell off their international pool money because their owner doesn't believe in it that market.

How do you know this has anything to do with their owner?

There was literally an article about it like a week ago.

I know this is what we're here for, but the over-analyzing is funny. How do you know what the Pons loathe aside from empty seats? Just curious.

I mean, how long have you been a Mets fan? This is not some secret that Mets ownership is extremely sensitive about how they and the organization are perceived. There was literally an article this week (Sherman?) quoting a Mets official saying (paraphrasing) its unfair how they are perceived.

Do you really think that Sandy Alderson would have accepted being the front man for the type of dog and pony show that you are suggesting? Do you really think that Sandy wanted to shake things up with deals of controllable players but Jeff Wilpon put the kibosh on that? Is this what you're saying?? Think about it for a second please.

I have zero idea what you are talking about here. Literally, zero. It doesn't even make sense.

K. That's the glass half full assessment. Someone else could say he's been in charge of a baseball ops dept for 27 seasons and has as many championships as RAJ, Larry Beinfest, Kenny Williams, Bill Stoneman, et al.

I'm thinking the thread should be renamed "It is time to say goodbye to Fred and Jeff Wilpon"

I am baffled beyond belief that we sold off Bruce, Walker, Duda, Reed and Grandy at the deadline ... and will most likely get NOTHING out of it

I would give Sandy this offseason to try to right the ship .. but I wouldn't be sad if he was gone

So yay for losing and fingers crossed the organization changes its ways for next year

The problem is we won't reinvest the money in good players. We'll dumpster dive again and over-commit to mediocre players who will tie our hands for 3 or 4 years while we wait for their contracts to expire.

However he could remain in an exec role and effectively be a buffer to run interference for a new GM that he "helps select." So in that way he can put his stamp on what happens after he steps down from the day to day...

You mean sort of like what Stick Michael did for Watson and Cashman when George was still George in the 90's.

That would be ideal.

Provided the new GM is a good baseball personnel man.

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?
